Yes but imagine missing Kohli, Ashwin, Jadeja, Bumrah, Shami, Umesh .... it happened at the Gabba.

Not an issue of performance in one test.

 

Umesh's USP has been reverse swing at skiddy quick pace. All these 3 aspects (  reverse swing, skid off the deck and pace )   have reduced due to age ... which has removed the edge that he once had on slow and low tracks.

 

You may may see him do better on faster and bouncier tracks from time to time, like at the Oval. The next test is in Mumbai and it has a lively pitch.

 

But we won't see him perform on low and slow tracks like he once did. May be in the odd match he will.

Its not late declaration, dont blame the TM for having some additional buffer otherwise we never know if it comes to 100 run in last session, it can be chased. But lack of intent in scoring those runs after Tea is something which is not understood. Management should've instructed player to get to 280 lead quickly , but I am sure there was no instructions from management till last 2 overs.

Did you see my reply a page or two back? We could, if need be, bowl less overs on day 5 - in fact we could bowl just 70 overs & get off without a fine! Here take a look again -

As a matter of fact we could use this tactic late on day 4 & day 5 with pacers & bad light! NZ have bowled 14-16 overs less this game, why are they not punished for this? The only plausible reason is bad light!

Don't think so. You needed 275, even 300. We didn't win because we couldn't dismiss night watchman for two hours in the morning.

We scored 230 after 50/5 in itself was a big relief for TM. You realise they would ask Saha and Axar to bat quickly? First aim was to get a safe score. 250 in 110 overs was chaseable. You never know

It is not too late to bring in sarma, out batting is very weak, masked by iyer and lower order. SA tour will be cancelled for sure .

Bowling is done in pairs. If you are pairing up with Ishant and know that opposition will see you off and also aware of fact that spinners will do better job, there is not much you can do unless you are among top 5 bowlers

That wasn't a late declaration,  283 is an OK score. Declaring at 250 could have been risky.

Siraj in place of Ishant would have made a big difference - enough to win the test comfortably
