Ya why dint the pick Ishan it's quite suprising. He could have even played as an middle order batter, as i said that they dont want any potential replacement to be in squad so that they can find an opportunity and shine. Let this moron loose in SA very soon he will lose his test captaincy as well. He is even bigger torture than Dhoni( in his last days of ODI captaincy).

 I do not think Kaptaan will select all 20 odd players . Generally it would 2-3 players max he will insist upon to be included. The responsibility lies with selectors . Secondly there was of lot leg room for selectors as strength of squad is 20+ and not 15-16. They could have easily included all those who they think should be  next in line . 

With this selection -

it shows  

- they have not identified the next set of pacers for Bouncy pitches . Ideally Prasidh & Saini should have been in this sqaud of 20+.

- Middle order - Not convinced that Iyer would be our next MO bat in SENA . Hope they play Mayank in MO in this  tour . Apart from Gill , cupboard seems bare for MO positions . Need to zero in on another couple decent technique guys for MO .

- Why Saha should be WK in SENA ? It should have been Ishan .  I can agree if Bhrat is selected in India .

Saha's 61 saved his spot. But they should realize he is not a long term option. He is 37 years old. Bharat did a decent job with keeping. Anyway if Pant is fit Saha is not playing. If Pant becomes unfit then that will make our tail even longer.

Agreed, But right now anyone would be upgrade on Pujara, Hahane and Ishant. Ideally they should have picked Sarfraz, and Ishan for lower middle order and eashwaran for Gujara position. Hahane ,Ishant and Saha should not have been in the squad at first place.

Yes Saha did his bit in India. But You can't expect that in SENA from him and at 37-38 , you are not even making an investment.. Secondly choosing Ishan in 20+ team for SENA tours  provides a clear vision of TM for youngsters PLUS at 23 you are making a huge investment for someone who can play all 3 formats in future.

Selectors should have scheduled a practice game vs India A.  And pick the playing XI from that game.  BCCI is full of clowns.

They have to protect their rotten oldies in the middle order. Gill is the sacrificial lamb. This is why i hoped Gill to make a 100. He becomes an easy target with these middling scores. He has to come back big.

I would prefer Pujara & Rahane getting Exposed against 140+ barrage vs atleast 3 pacers in bouncy SA  & prove their mettle of their so called experience , greatness & usefulness . If they do very good , i have no issues , let them play another 1-2 years .

If we play rookies now vs those pacers in SA and if they fail , path is very clear for these oldies  to sneak in when we play in india vs soft oppositions and stick to the team X1. That is totally unfair on youngsters . 

I would not prefer the second scenario playing out.  

My doubt is both oldies have lost it  so that this tour help in getting the matter settled once for all.
