Just was going through the history of SAF India rivalry and then i remembered the awsomme partnership between Azhar and Sachin in cape town in 1996 after the first match where we were bowled out for 66 by Donald. Absolutely mindblowing. Somebody even wrote a book about it. So what are your favourite top 5 partnerships by Indian batsmen overseas ( havent seen much of the 1980s so will stick to 1996 and beyond). Win or lose or draw doesnt matter..mines will be

1. Sachin Laxman Sydney. 376 Runs

2. Azhar Sachin Capetown 1996 : 222 Runs

3. Kohli and Rahane Melbourne 2014 ( how Rahane sigh! Manhandled Johnson)  268 Runs

4. Sachin Ganguly Headingley 2002. 249 runs in just 60 overs. This was feast for eyes as both turned on their odi batting and absolutely shellacked Hoggard Flintoff Caddick Tudor Giles

5. Pant Jadeja Sydney 2018 : 204 runs. I was actually feeling sorry for the Australian bowlers. They really looked ragged after Pujara had flattened them with his 193

I really liked the 180 odd between Vijay and Kohli in Adelaide chasing 350

plus in 4th innings in 2014. Unfortunately the umpires robbed us of the match giving Rahane out when ball popped of his pads and then saha committed harakiri.

Also the Pant Rahul smashing partnership in Oval 2018 which nearly gave England a heart attack.

Azhar & Tendulkar partnership was a riot. They were scoring at 5 an over I think. After a series of failures Azharuddin changed his stance to two-eyed stance in the series against SA at home which was right before this series. Made a whirwind 102 runs smashing Klusner to all parts of on side. That was one of the most brutal onside assault one could see. Astonishingly he repeated the same at Capetown in the following series. This time Tendulkar joined the fun

376 run between dravid lax was special as well ,when bucknor gave tendu lbw the score was 80/3 and we were still 478 runs behind,as aus had scored 558 on the back if ponting 257 ,but dravid lax had other ideas they first cautiously, then milked then smashed Aussies all around the park and then offcourse Agarkar ran through them in second innings.

Others which deserve mention

2001-02, Bloemfontein, 1st test, Sachin-Sehwag 220 runs for the 5th wicket, from 68/4 to 288/5

Same series, 2nd test, Port Elizabeth, Deep Dasgupta- Dravid, batted for nearly the entire day on day 5 to save the test. Came in at 0/1, 171 runs, 80 overs, match saved

2002 Leeds Test: Bangar&Dravid 170 in 65 overs, Sachin-Dada nearly 250 runs in 55-69 overs

There was one between Sachin and sehwag during sehwag debut test. Where both scored century at fast pace in sa.

Dravid-Laxman 303 runs partnership at Adelaide in 2003 should be at the top of the list.

Australia scored 550+ first up. In reply we were just 85/4. From that stage we went on to win that test (our 1st victory in Aus after decades).

Edit: Today is the 18th anniversary of that victory.

An injured Ashwin Bihari to save the game that gave us belief to win the series

Australia in the box seat to win this match, they bullied and taunted Ashwin too, not to mention an injured Vihari batting.

One of the greatest rear guard partnerships in modern day test cricket over the last 10 years easily.

Thakur Sundar stand at Gabba 2021 we all know about it.

Thakur Pant stand at Oval 2021 2nd inns...  England had a real shot at skittling us out on a low Total & chase a modest total but Thakur & Pant batted sensibly to take the game away & making an English victory super tough in the end.

Pujara Rahane 2nd inns in Adelaide 2018..  Crucial stand.  This was a tight game from start to finish.   Crucial clutch inns from Rahane as well.

Don't rate the first one as it came against the weakest Australian bowling attack of all time on a flat patta.

These should also be there :

1. Sundar - Shardul at the Gabba

2. Shami - Bumrah at the Oval

3. Murali Vijay - Kohli adelaide oval.
