Who were 5 most intelligent fast or fast-medium bowlers ever?

Here I am asessing the most intelligent genuinely fast or fast -medium pace bowlers.I am not assessing overall skill ,talent or statistics but just their ability to out think opponents by mastering their weakneseses and devising strategy accordingly.

 

1.Ian Botham- In a single  over he would bowl five good balls but it was the bad delivery that dismissed a batsman.I can't forget his dismissals of Sunil Gavaskar in 1979 and Viv Richards in 1980 when he was master in changing pace and in deceiving batsmen.

 

 

2.Glen Mcgrath-In the manner of a computer he could study the traits of batsmen and a wicket and do just what the doctor ordered.He would blend pace,bounce,movement and length in perfect proportion.

 

 

3.Malcolm Marshall-Even his pace was frightening his trump card was his ability to disguise his movement ,pace and bounce.Even on falt pancake he could make a batsman hop.

 

 

4.Courtney Walsh-Even though a metronome and not as talented as partner Ambrose was more effective on unhelpful tracks with his mastery in angling deliveries and in changing pace.Exhibited it in India and Pakistan.

 

 

5.Kapil Dev-Knew exactly what line and length to bowl to a given batsman in given conditions and how to outmanouver  a batsman  with late outswing  or change in pace.

Shaun Pollock, James Anderson, Mohammad Asif, Zaheer Khan are right up there too aside of the mentioned names.

 

McGrath would be no.1 for me though. Botham is rated too highly here.

How can you miss Wasim Akram? Every commentator used to say he bowled 6 different deliveries in an over.

What's so great about bowling 6 different balls in an over? What are those six balls? Inswing, outswing, Yorker, bouncer, leg cutter, off cutter?

Undoubtedly Glen mcgrath. Genius with the ball. Can land the ball at a length of his choice. 

 

Other intelligent bowlers imo are steyn who knew when to crank it up and when not to. 

 

I would say wasim is another fine choice. Very intelligent with the ball. 

 

Honorary options include asif and Patrick Cummins.

Pollock (first half of career), Hadlee, McGrandiose, Walsh, etc. all come to mind. Fred Trueman was another skilled fast-medium bowler.

 

However, there is one clear winner: Majid Khan

good selection, although we didn't get to see van der bilj in int'l cricket. Fixer Asif's international cricket was also short, although his skill was certainly high. I'd also put marshall for much of his career as fast, and not fast-medium
