The game has not changed in one respect - if a team has batters on hand, they will chase down a target. Need to take wickets. That was true in 1983 and it is true today. Agree strongly. Teams which have won consistently in international cricket have always invested in strike bowlers. ( Long winding league based tournaments can't be compared to international cricket ) Teams which have punched above their weight have had dangerous bowlers irrespective of the format. We lost the Pakistan in the T20 WC 2021 because of the early wickets we lost. Same with CT 2017. And people may say that it's test cricket ... where the requirements are different. But we won the test series in Australia and England in the last 14 months, despite piss poor batting, is because of wicket taking pace bowlers. Even in white ball cricket, taking wickets has to be the full focus. We saw what Kulcha and Bumrah did in 2018 and 2019. The biggest difference between Indian pacers and pacers of other teams, till 1988, was that our pacers were floaty and could not extract bounce and seam movement off the deck ... while other pacers could. While even newbie Sri Lanka used to pick big pacers in the 1980s, who tried to hit the deck hard. And we are going back there in the 2020s. Will never work in the medium or long run. Even slower balls work better when preceeded by a really quick or bouncy ball. Edited February 18, 2022 by express bowling sarchasm, Vijy, rollingstoned and 2 others 1 4

The most important thing he did is giving chances to more number of players through tournaments and tours. This is the biggest difference. Before they would pick a bunch and stick to them. Now players get chance to showcase their. Shivam Mavi is an example who made it when he wasn't in the original u19 squad. U19 Challenger trophy was first organised in 2016. It was 3 team then. Dravid then suggested to increase it to 6 teams which happened last year. Chakdephatte 1
kubrickian Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Chahar, Harshal, Bhuvi etc. will be murdered all day by good teams on Aussie patta wickets. in World Cup They are not like Indian wickets which are low and slow where these trundlers can try variations. You need some pace and bounce there to be anywhere close to effective. At least, the TM could have tried one of Prasidh or Siraj in this inconsequential T20 series. That's what these bilaterals all for. In any case, Indian selectors/ TM as always have proved they dont have eye for talent. They select blindly by numbers and pick based on performances in IPL/FC but everyone knows there is a huge gap between international cricket and domestic cricket. Vijy and express bowling 2

In that post you quoted, I was talking about the composition of the 5 primary bowlers. The composition I want for T20s .... 6. Batsman who can bowl 7. All-rounder 8. Bowling all-rounder 9. Specialist bowler 10. Specialist bowler 11. Specialist bowler This composition gives .... 3 strike bowlers .... 6 bowling options .... batting till 8 Takes care of all aspects But I am totally against compromising on the 3 strike bowlers. Because, ultimately, taking wickets is the key. no. 9 can be a bowler who can bat a bit provided that he is genuine pacy bowler. if mavi can rediscover both batting and bowling form, he is one option.

At-least one express bowler is a must for T-20. I hope that our trundler only attack is a temporary arrangement and not a long term policy! Mosher and express bowling 2
HamHindustani Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Strike bowlers are important. They put the opposition in doubt of their approach. Without strike bowlers, oppositions can plan out their batting approach. We need strike bowlers for opening overs definitely and for the middle overs also. Vijy and Ankit_sharma03 2

If you look at the India's history of T20 fast bowlers. Dinda has the best strike rate lol Min 100 balls bowled
vvvslaxman Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 They are all average bar Bumrah. We need to focus on 2 gun spinners.

On doctored pitches in India somebody will surely replace Ashwin - even Jayant Yadav types take wickets in India. For example Ashwin in India has 300 wkts in 49 matches at 21.4 with 24 fifers. Now Axar has 36 wkts in 5 matches at 11.86 with 5 fifers. Better than Ashwin. Outside subcontinent Ashwin showed his effectiveness in the recent SA tour. He was probably the most ineffective player in the Indian side worse than even Rahane and Pujara. So the fact that there is no real offspin replacement for him does not mean much outside India and actually may be a blessing in disguise. Ashwin averages 42 in Aus, 50 in SA and 32.9 in England. He has of course played well in Bangla, SL and in the WI who are hopeless against any spin. Edited February 23, 2022 by AKane
