Kohli and Pant exit the bubble as BCCI gives them a short break

Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been given a short break following India's T20I series win over West Indies in Kolkata with one game remaining. Both are likely to also rest for the upcoming three T20Is against Sri Lanka starting February 24 in Lucknow, the squad for which is expected to be named over the weekend.

 

Both players left the Indian camp in Kolkata early on Saturday, after India won by eight runs on Friday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Kohli was India's early enforcer, making 52, while Pant lent the finishing touches with Venkatesh Iyer in a blistering 76-run stand off just 35 balls. Pant also made 52.

 

ESPNcricinfo understands the decision to rest Kohli and Pant is part of a policy that is being put in to ensure the all-format regulars are given breaks periodically. Pant's absence could allow some much needed game time for one of Shreyas Iyer or Ruturaj Gaikwad, who have had to sit out of the T20Is so far owing to team combination. Ishan Kishan is expected to take over wicketkeeping duties.

 

Meanwhile, Kohli's break at this juncture, in particular, is to ensure he is fresh for the two-Test series that follows the T20Is against Sri Lanka. He is currently on 99 Tests and is set to play his 100th in Mohali on March 4. He had earlier missed the Johannesburg Test in South Africa due to back spasms.

He has earned enough money and has lost interest in cricket now. I have never seen a fit player take so many breaks.

Why... They are humans not machines. And they want him to be fit for Tests. Playing T20s against SL at home as it is isn't a great barometer for a T20 WC in Australia

• Rutu shud play next game, rohit shud go down at 3. Although Rutu selection solves no purpose as he is even more slow then others in PP but chalo dedo chance 
• Kishen is there so he can keep
• Send Venky or SKY at 4 
• Pant not being there wud mean shreyas in XI , again solves no purpose. We need better backup selections 
• Also lets play Avesh, we badly need hit the deck bowler for Aus

 Just look at the time he was on bubble since 2020 Plus IPL and the matches played by him. He needs to take  breaks.

The ICC cricketer of the decade who is also the busiest and the biggest cricket superstar on earth needs some rest. 

 

Pant needs to improve his t20I batting though, not sure if resting him is a good decision.

Pant should play as many games as possible to come to terms with playing in middle order in T20s.  Come the WT20 we should have a stable middle order.   That will only happen if he & SKY play more games.

Bhuvi....bas Karo yaar. Ya I know he bowled well in 19th over still. Whenever I think of Rovman Powell and then our malnourished trundler nind toot jati hai meri.

Yeah but TM goes for one experienced bowler. Avesh chahar harshal will be too inexperienced for them to field a team
