knee jerk reaction ......he needs to do lot more to claim that  title from Virat  , who as of now holds that title. His record is  way  too skewed  towards  'home  domination'.

An abroad average of 37 with a lone 100+ under lines this  fact. Having said that his 196 has been a  great knock    given the adverse match situation.

Was a top class knock. One of the best back to the wall innings in recent years. But it was his 1st test 100 after 20 test innings (including tests vs WI, BD and ZIM).

 

Surely the tag of the 'best Asian batsman' has to have higher standards.

You make a valid point regarding Babar but Virat is not even the best batsman in Indian side atm, let alone having the tag of being best in Asia lol

This was an epic knock. Scoring 196 in the 4th innings walking in at 21/2 to draw a match against the Aussies is no joke regardless of the pitch. This may not be Hanif 337 level but certainly very close. 

 

What is surprisingly though is that this is only his 7th test 100.

BTW this "best in Asia" tag even if accurate will have the standard shelf life of any #1 position held by Pakistan i.e. few days/months. As 2009 T20 WC winners, they were replaced in 2010 under 12 months and again were Test #1 for a few months.

Why is he overrated? Is there any other  current batsman from Asia who will play all three formats in next 3 to 5 years for sure.How many current Asian batsmen other than Kohli have played great test innings away from home in all countries.For a guy who is 27 he has done just fine and is also durable unlike a guy like Rahul.

 

Sure he lacks firepower like Rahul or Rohit in shorter formats.For his team he is just fine as a batsman who will hold one end up in shorter formats.

 

Rohit might be better as of today as an overall batsman but after two-three years who knows where Rohit might end up.He keeps missing important tours due to injuries. I don't see any other current India batsman who plays all three formats is on par with this guy.

 

He is best Asian batsman by default as India is going thru transition period.

yes there might not be current test batsmen apart from kohli who has played these great away knocks but babar has exactly ZERO great away knocks. That’s the point.

 

babar has only one away 100 which was scored in a heavy innings loss when the match was already over and there was no pressure. Similar to virats first hundred.

 

rohit has the oval 100.

rahul has the lords and centurion 100.

pant has the gabba 89, Sydney 97 and cape town 100.

rahane has his lords and mcg 100 (X 2)

pujara has his Aussie exploits, wanderers 100, Sri Lanka 2015 3rd test 100, Southampton 100.

 

and am pretty sure some Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan batsmen have good away knocks (kusal mendis in sa).

 

babar has 0. His best knocks away are a few 40-50s. He averages 37 away and 88 at home.

They didn’t even beat West Indies this time. If not for Gabriel brain fart in 2017 they would still have been winless. Like 1 series win in indies in their history when an indies series is like free victories for such a long time.
