Exactly batting on a day 5 pitch with decent  rough is no joke.   Shafique has played a amazing inns.

pakistan need to back him like they backed babar who had a 35 average in first class cricket.

Pakistan domestic batmsen have lowish averages. 50 plus average is very rare.

Shafique is an outstanding talent. Top level stuff this..Asia but regardless. Good knock. 

As for comparison with Shaw Gill? 

It's hard to say really. Gill has been mismanaged. He is not an opener. We would see him do well at 4 or even 3

 

Shaw as an opener has his share of flaws but we need to see shafique away from home to compare.

Karunaratne blaming batsmen.. Abe ghonchu.. Your bowling was piss poor in 4th innings. In fact, P Jayasuriya has been doing all the work alone. How about not dropping catches, guiding the bowlers and doing what good captains do. P Jayasuriya was expected to blow away Pak in 4th innings. Didn't happen as the pitch eased considerably and there was no other bowler Or plan. Still.. It was an incredible batting effort from Shafique.

Credit where it's due, Pakistan are improving their Test batting considerably. They seem to be producing quite resilient batsmen with compact techniques.

Test cricket doesn't come naturally to many as it isn't the preferred format anymore. Only way Gill can improve is by playing more and not warming benches. Even if we drop him, playing IPL will not help him. But mentality is clear, he doesn't want to be consistent, just wants to be explosive, Sehwag type. Just let him figure out his game.

Well done Pakistan , Shafique is a find, if they can Find another Batter along with Shafique and Babar, they ll have a formidable line-up. However, They need to oust the likes of Azhar Ali and probably Yasir Shah aswell, they are weak links and will be exploited by better oppositions. 

Would have loved to see an India Pak Test Series, God knows when is that going to happen in this life time.

Faheem will probably plan in conditions that suit him, he hasn’t a central contract so i think the selectors want to look beyond him. He needs to keep improving his test bowling.

i am surprised Shadab hasnt featured in home games for Pakistan yet, he is a decent player of spin and has 3 fifties in Sena. Unless Pakistan can find some quality spinners he should walk into this lineup.

He has a way to go still. Don’t  really rate him very highly personally.No outstanding feature.

Keep an eye out for Muhammad Hurraira, best young player of spin ive seen coming through for Pak, an opener to boot.

Another name is Muhammad Shehzad for white ball cricket because of his power game, fast hands and hits really big sixes for his age. 4-5 per game.

Amazing , Shafique  played only one first class game before making his test debut and so far has played on 3 FC games ( other then his 6 tests ) and played a test inning like a veteran of 100 tests , stayed at the wickets for 524 minutes . In 6 tests he has faced as many deliveries as it took 87 test to Sehwag and 50 tests to Gavaskar. No, I'm not comparing the rookie opener with those ATG openers, just sharing some interesting stats .

Faheem has been a failure most of the time in all format , other than 2-3 scores of 40-50 runs in 6 years,  although he was supposed be a bowling allrounder.

People were hating on Babar when he compared Shafique to Dravid. The best way to shut the haters up is with the bat and Shafique did exactly that. Great knock.

 

I think Rajitha dropped the match when he dropped that catch.

Pak will tour Australia next year...  If they find another batter of the quality of Shafique along with Babar they could compete with the bat. 

Never thought I'd say this but Pakistani batters have better temperament & looks like these guys know the art of inns building as well.   While their bowling looks quite rubbish bar Shaheen to an extent I think. 

Young Indian batters are now on overdose of T20 diet & we play like that in Test cricket with a couple of finished players in line up. 

 

I do hope we pick Rajat Patidar & Sarfraz for BD series.  Man we could use some fresh performers from domestics. 

Gill probably needs another FC season to get those big runs.

Their bowling will continue ue to fail. Just not good enough. But gee their batting looks real good and quality.
