Top 3 were fixed. Pant didn't score runs in NZ and he was under pressure from fans so they thought its the best chance to fit in KL as WK Bat. Had Pant performed, Iyer would have been sacrificial lamb inspite of good performances. Remember the England ODI series earlier this ywar, I think Iyer was in the squad but didn't got to play while Pant and Surya both played in that series. But since then Iyer has been consistently performing vs WI, SA and NZ and hence merits a place vs BD.

Kishan performed vs SA but was dropped from NZ and Gill performed vs NZ but dropped from BD. So, until your place is cemented, you can be dropped.

That would be a big travesty....but knowing regionalist jingo Dravid he will definitely push for Rahul. Slowly this team would be assembled with Gujju due to Jay Shah and Dravid's fav players rather than on merit. An out of form Pant can still win matches from nowhere like he did in eng on tough pitch but with KL at 5 I can assure you a choke job this guy is bad against spin and pace both with peanut size 95% temperament. Do you think he can play inning like pant at number 5 when were 66/4 against eng in a chase of 250. He will be the first one to start the procession.
