TM finalized 20 players for ODI World Cup squad

KL Rahul you already mentioned, Rahane was another one who blocked a place for years. Pujara is another freeloader, so is Chahal and Bhuvi.

They were shaping up Washington Sundar nicely for No. 8 role.

 

Suddenly with Jadeja comeback and Axar form with bat, they dumped him immediately.

 

What happen to giving game time to players at their preferred position and building up first XI for the world cup.

Sky needs to only be considered for a specialist finisher role. The problem is our middle order is filled with nonperformers so all the batsmen need to be able to build an innings as well

Unfortunately this is going exactly like it went before WT20 2021 & WT20 2022.

Yes, they have finalized the 20 players but that part is easy. What's difficult is is to finalize the 15 or the 11 and give game time to players in their respective positions and define their role clearly.

- They haven't finalized he No.4 and backup middle order batsman. Come world cup, you may have a situation that a underplayed Samson makes a grand comeback from nowhere in scheme of things.

- They haven't finalized the spin bowling allrounders- what was the point of playing both Jadeja and Axar in playing XI against Aus. If Jadeja is undropbale then make up mind about Axar and bench him and play Sundar/Thakur consistently at No. 8.

- Is Shardul thakur really a necessity for the TM? If yes, play him otherwise no point carrying him as a passenger. 

- Bumrah is out indefinitely and he may or may not make the world cup team. What are the backup plans then? an underplayed and undercooked Umran ?  Unadkat??

- The only thing that looks like certain is Kuldeep as lead spinner which is good. But you can never trust this TM and the chewitya collarchewer Yuzi comeback!

If Bumrah & Iyer not going to make it in time then these 9 players are certainties. The TM needs to identify the remaining 2 players and play the XI in as many as ODI as possible before the world cup.

Permutations Combinations in bowling can change based on IPL performance...there are chances that Yuzi, Bhuvi, Ashwin, Deepak Chahar can find a place in the ODI teams after the IPL if they do decently in this season. Umran and Kuldeep Yadav has to perfom exceptionally well to retain their place.

True. Batsmen don't get impacted. Only bowlers get impacted.

Ind clearly needs a left hander MO batter in 11, they  should get a proper batter rather than asking Axar to play that role.

 

This TM is over estimating Axar as a batter, this backward thinking has been costing team for years now, since Yuvraj Ind has not been able to figure a good MO batter.

Only one can play. Either Jadeja or Axar while playing Kuldeep as well.

Ishan Kishan and Washington Sundar are the two...apart from Jadeja and Axar....others won't get in due to lack of experience.

 Not sure if Kishan is cut out for Intnl cricket, just 1 good IPL got him into the team, He is suspect against any kind of movement be it spin or pace.

Has v.average Domestic records - Sub 40 avg in FC and List A, less than 130 SR in T20.

 

Same or worse record for Sundar, does not qualify as a batter in my opinion.

Axar has limit, I don't think him and Jadeja can be playing togther in odis. Jadeja also has to be played as per match ups.

 

They need some big hitters who can bowl few overs.

Don't see any new addition in the side except for the injuries. Axar, Pandya, Jaddu, Washington and Thakur are the allrounders till WC.

So true, that is the sad part. India can play their best and still end up short of other teams who have more firepower both in batting and bowling.

 

Repeat of Dhoni and Jadhav waving whiteflags in 2019 is not far fetched.

 

We have too many bits and pieces players like Jadeja, Pandya and Axar. I rather have either completely strong bowling or batting unit.

The list is not released iirc but it is a tentative list that can change a bit depending on the form and unusually strong performances in tournaments like IPL ...  Players on the list are supposed to be a part of ODIs at least since the beginning of the year. 

 

PS in general: Rohit, Kohli, KL, Gill, SKY, S Iyer (if fit), Samson, Kishan, Hardik, Jadeja, Axar, Sundar, Kuldeep, Bumrah (if fit), Shami, Siraj, Thakur, Umran, Unadkat, etc.

Ok. Three months before the WC we have changes happening left, right and center.

 

What happens to team stability?

From the original 20 member probables at the start of the year,

 

- Washington Sunder is no longer in scheme of things.
- Ruturaj Gaikwad is suddenly in reckoning after injury to Iyer and KL
- Mukesh Kumar & Unadkut are also in the mix now
