The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup will likely be moved out of the West Indies and the USA due to the allegedly poor progress of infrastructure in the region.

One of the avenues being discussed is swapping the host nations of the 2024 and 2030 editions. As per the schedule, England, Ireland and Scotland will host the T20 World Cup in 2030, but their time could come sooner due to the current circumstances.

If USA isn't ready, why can't the Caribbean countries host it? Enough venues there, and lots of craze for this format. 2010 WT20 timings were also reasonable for Indian viewers with the early starts.

Will every 2nd ICC event be given to England?

Giving hosting rights to an association nation is maddness.

There is no appetite in USA for the sport so obv stadiums and infrastructure wont be there without money in USA which isnt there. So just have WI as the host as there are enough stadiums on the Islands. I dont want another ICC tourney in England

Lol .

What a competent organisation ICC is..

The tournament is a year away and now they want to shift the venue to a different continent. The World Cup is barely 3 months away and still there are no fixtures released and no idea on the participation of a few countries.

Perfect blueprint on how not to run a private organisation.

Its the BCCI way.. nothing is finalised till the last minute.

I mean how in the world that a WC is 5 months away, fixtures not been finalised, venues not been finalised, hell even tickets not released. No wonder overseas cricket fans don't want to come to India to watch their team play, as they cannot pre plan their trip in advance to take advantages of cheaper flights and hotels. They should learn from FIFA how the logistics for a WC is planned and implemented.

Good to see ICC being proactive and monitoring the infrastructure.

If the promises (or if the development is not heading as per the proposed plan) are not being kept by the host, the message is that ICC would change the venues.

A note for countries like Pakistan as well which acts as if it something is awarded to Pak, it is the duty of others to play in Pak no matter what.

What did they expect from USA? an associate nation without much money in the sport. Is ICC that stupid to think that the right infrastructure can be created by the US board? when WI is there a a full member with all the required stadiums then why the need to host matches in USA who doesn't have the required stadiums and probably never will. Its like asking Ireland or Netherlands to make a stadium like Lords.. why would they? theres no money. Thats why only England hosts the WC as it doesnt have the ability to host it with Scotland and Ireland

There is usually some development proposal by the host countries ... I think it is not a bad idea to take cricket to more countries, and T20 is an ideal format for that.

From what I understood, Eng, Ire & Sco are to host the 2030 T20 WC. What ICC wants to do is swap 2024 & 2030 WCs to allow USA more time to get its infrastructure right.

Below is the tentative schedule for T20 WCs:

2024 WI & USA

2026 Ind & SL

2028 Aus & NZ

2030 Eng, Ire, & Sco

ODIs

2023 Ind

2027 SA, Zim, & Nam

2031 Ind & BD

It's just India, England and Aus hosting ICC events these days.

I thought the 2007 edition of the T20 WC in SA was awesome. Very well organized despite being the first T20 WC.

2003 ODI WC also had a great vibe to it.

But those were the only ICC tournaments that they hosted.

In recent times, its only been India or England.. and occasionally Australia.

Why India again in 2031? Why not Aus/NZ as a rotation?

I guess it would be more about BD but Ind is being included to help manage the big event better for these countries (BD & SL).

Agree.

If WI and SA are full members and have the stadium infrastructure then they should be allowed to host WCs

Scotland and Ireland dont have ANY stadiums which can hold more than 5/8K thousand people. These are playing grounds with a few stands not WC level stadiums. Hence only Eng has the required facilities to host a full WC.

@zen This is Scotlands main cricket ground... on what planet is this fit enough to hold WC matches..?

I guess, it will probably hold some SCO (and/or associates) games.

Only USA cric. board has raised the concerns till now, WI has not suggested anything like this. If one board is not ready why should other board suffer.

WI board has many venues where they can host WC. With some money in infrastructure they can easily host it.

There is no point in giving hosting rights to an associate boards, first they have never done anything of this magnitude, plus they lack the infrastructure and management.

ICC's fascination of ICC to promote cricket to other nation is direction less, the sport can not pick-up unless locals follow it. and for most of the associate members only gen. 0 of the ex-pats/imgrt are taking up the cricket and weekend hobby nothing else. there is no follow up in the next gen.

Ppl get scholarships only by pursuing olympics sports or locally popular sports, and cricket can not be a profession and before IPL and new domestic franchise leagues cricket could not be a profession in already test playing nations.

ICC already struggles to provide DRS and 3rd umpires in their tournaments how can it promote cricket in other countries.

Cricket is already loosing its feet in existing markets like WI, Af, nt sure how big it is outside Ind sub continent. Crowd already stopped turning out for ODIs, looks like t20s are they way forward.

ICC is having so many events in last 10 years looks like as if winning a ICC cup or trophy has lost its charm.

Why is SA board not interested in hosting any event.

It should be SA. Last time they hosted ICC tournament was CT 2009, Even that was in Pakistan initially but the bus attack made it happen in SA. Close to 15 yrs and no ICC event there. :((
