We beat Aussies twice in their backyard. Drew with England etc. Competed well vs SA. Only failed in nz. We are more than capable. Infact if we pick the correct bowlers we are more capable than Aussie attack which is vastly overrated. It's our coach that needs to be changed. And our captain. Absolute shambles. Pathetic captaincy.

Under Bharat, Bumrah and Ishant used to bowl dry spells when needed. Now Bumrah is injured and Ishant is washed up. Yes we won Gabba without them but that was an anomaly. We need such pacers who can bowl long spells and control runs if wickets are not coming putrevus 1

If we picked them we had a good chance to win the final. I know our batting is useless but our bowling could have been fixed. They have some experience. They are used to limelight. Pressure is nothing. They feel pressure in ipl. Indian players are used to pressure in IPL. Fast bowlers have a short lifespan. India shouldn't be waiting to debut them. We won in Australia with rookie attack. Rookie batsman sundr did well too. He performed in India right after too. We just need to unleash them. Young hungry and talented but raw talent is much better than over the hill great/very good bowler. Umesh is beyond washed up. Shami is really 40. We should have used our brains. Even undacutta would have been a fine choice in England.

putrevus Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 People keep talking as if Gabba is going to happen everyday. They keep referencing it for all the issues. There is only one June 25 1983 and similarly there is only one Gabba. What did Gill do in two finals , what did Siraj do in this finals. Lone Wolf and Lord 2

We drew in England too. 2 - 2 which should have been 3-1 in reality. We only sacked in NZ. Sa was competitive but we stuffed up by picking kela as captain. Captain kohli would have ensured correct bowlers would have been picked for conditions. Although batting woes and insistence to persevere with washed batsmen would still inhibit us.
Gollum Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Let us just admit that Bharat Arun was the vital cog in our test team from 2015-21. The MVP even sitting in the dugout. You get coaches like him once in a generation. wazza 1

The WTC final showed how much of a difference having a varied attack with different release points can make a difference. India used to have that with Bumrah bowling with a wide release, Shami being relatively tighter and Ishant coming from a point which was higher. It was difficult for batters to line up these guys because you simply could not get used to it. FF to 2023 and you have Shami, Shardul and Umesh with almost exact points of release an only Siraj is different. Lord 1
wazza Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 23 minutes ago, Suhaan said: What did Koolie and Rohit do in these two WTC finals? Exactly. Also....bowling only bowled poor in 3 or 4 games in 7 years since ce 2015. What about batting? Barring pant. Bowling has been top class for years now. Only went down after stupid Mambray was at helm. Take Smith out of aus and then they lose easy to indua in the wtc final even in England against India with no prep We have 0 batsmen in the class of Smith labu or even head at the moment. Not to mention they got khawaja and green who is good enough. Only pant is quality and he is injured. Our young guns would have fared lot better and probably helped us win in all honesty.
Serpico Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Next match has rain threat on last 3 days which means England needs to play even more aggressively to force a result. Draw means Ashes gone. All they had to do was pick a competent keeper like foakes and they would have probably won the first match. This is going to turn very ugly for McCullum if England can't turn around

Gollum Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 I'm trying to ignore the whole thing because I really don't give a *, but I'm really struggling to comprehend the "Bairstow wasn't trying to gain an advantage so he shouldn't be out" takes. When did "batter trying to gain advantage" become a necessary part of a dismissal?— Andrew Nixon (@andrewnixon79@mastodon.world) (@andrewnixon79) July 2, 2023 This is exactly what England will want - no one is focusing on the fact that they’ve lost two test matches in which they’ve won the toss, had the better of the conditions and at some point have been on top in the match. https://t.co/KRzCOrKjQf— Kieran (@kieran_cricket) July 4, 2023 Dozy cricket from Colin De Grandhomme last year. wazza Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Look it's all fair in the game but no. I wouldn't want to win that way. Would I take the decision back by my captain? I personally would but I don't blame the captain for not doing so. Just not nice to win like this.
