tweaker Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 The team has been made of certain players and if they are out due to injury ,the replacement are such that they can be removed when the main players are back. There are many players in the domestic cricket who can play big roles but are always treated badly and thrown out. It looks like the team management is looking for the return of Rahul,Shreyas,Pant,Bumrah and has no interest in nurturing other players. There are also talks of return of Dhawan and Bhubaneshwar. Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from the test squad and was brought back after performing in 2,3 matches in IPL and made vice captain ,but Sarfaraz Khan who is performing consistently is even not selected in the squad. Bowlers are choose primarily due to their batting but the seniors batsman are not bowling 5 overs between them. Timely selection of some young players would have made difference to the team. Certain players ie Hooda,Mukesh,Unadkat are just choose to block that spot. Some players who should have been persisted are never selected again, ie Sen,Kuldeep Yadav,Bishnoi,Venkatesh Iyer,Mayank. The so called stars players have sponsers backing, even if they are injured such players are selected who have no potential to block star's place Wonder what star value a Boobie has,for they are staging such a dramatic script This is called evil intention express bowling 1

tapandrun Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Rt now Ind team's mindset confidence is that of a team which is trying to rebuild after departure of multiple seasoned performers who has no Idea who should be 11 what their roles are , no consistent playing 11 or 15 for that matter. This TM and set-up is dragging the team down, there no single bowler or batter who can confidently put his hand up say thing is my match I am going to win it for the team. Most of them do not know wether they will be selected for next game or not. PPL like kolhi and Rohit goes to a tour to sit or just be the part of 15 so that they can keep their places or may be braodcaster do not see a value in the team without these player. Most of them are not much marketable. Edited August 2, 2023 by tapandrun
AKane Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 This team reminds me of the team of 1999 which peaked with Zaheer and Srinath in 2003. One they ran into a red hot Aus team and for some reason I think they were hung over by a party prev night in the finals. The Kenya opposition in SF did not help. Then the same team more or less played in 2007 and we all know what happened. Here we started new with 2015 then almost got into the final in 2019. The same team with the same key faces now hopefully does not repeat 2007 this year. It does feel eerily same. Rohit Sharma and Kohli have declined a lot since 2019 with age 36 and almost 35 respectively. The middle order is just as unsettled as last time - maybe even worse with the absence of Dhoni and Pant. The bowling is worse off too. The only wild card in our favor is "how much will the home ground and home conditions help us". rollingstoned 1
AKane Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Making the semis ..... let us see how. Realistically 3 of the 4 SF spots probably go to Aus/Eng/Pak. Aus and Eng will be there but you can never tell about Pak. On paper they look much better than us. However the game is not played on paper. Pak has a long history of laying eggs against us even with Wasim/Waqar/Shoaib/AzarMahmood and Saqlain/Afridi and Inzamam/Saeed/Ijaz/Malik. I think they fold once again in WC regardless of the Asia Cup tamasha before. Anyway India is competing for 4th semi spot with SA and NZ who should be handled in India although NZ with Boult,Southee, Ferguson, Neesham, Santner, Sodhi can be a handful. Now Jamieson presence will make them a lot more awkward. India cannot lose 2 or 3 quick wickets at top and recover. Even against likes of SL/Bang and maybe even the other 2 in Afg/NL. That is the biggest concern. There is no one at spots 4,5,6,7 who can score a reliable 70 and a big 100. And even then how do you get to 300+? Any score below 300 is a well below par score these days. Edited August 2, 2023 by AKane

Also, Pakistan should not be underestimated. In the past, they had sides driven by individual brilliance but even then there were weak links that could be targeted. Past it Miandad, mediocre Aqib Javed in 1996. Past it Salim Malik, Afridi, Saqlain( in England) in 1999. An aged, fractious side in 2003. Mediocrities like Misbah, YK, Asad Shafiq, Afridi, and Shehzad in 2011 and 2015 etc. Don't think they'll have weak links this time. If they play an attack of Shaheen/Naseem/Ihsanullah/Usama Mir and get Saim Ayub into their top 3, we'll be the ones chasing leather.

It had covered all bases.Aussies team played fearless cricket and Indian team lost their matches against Australia much before taking the field. They were mentally so weak they lost any chance of beating the Australian team. Batting first or second did not matter , they were allout 125 batting first in league match.

Okay - so Aus was great but did Zaheer have to bowl the first over he did? He looked drunk. Srinath was better but not much better. Was there a need to select Dinesh Mongia? Kumble in the side and having Harbhajan who had taken Gilchrist and Hayden paired with Kumble would have meant no relent in the attack at that point. When we were batting Sehwag and Ganguly had made a bit of recovery and Sehwag had bludgeoned 20 of one spin over when the rains came. That totally slowed down the outfield which before was very fast.
