Article 1 does say India that is Bharat is a Union of states.  So both kinda exist

Already India is referred to as Bharat in Hindi as well as a couple of other Indian languages. This is somewhat similar to Deutschland - Germany. So don't understand the need to make a name change for India/Bharat.

Don't care, people from those states won't mind, only crooked politicians. The name Bharat is pan-India.

I remember reading this controversy and my social studies teacher used to make us sing Vande Mataram saying its the national song :)

Does its stroke nationalism or unifying factor that India did?  Its debatable as founding fathers had a definite challenge to find common ground with lot of regions & linguistic divide lasted literally decades & we still see after effects of it. 

 

Also geopoltically we have a Ocean named after us as well which we like to call it as our backyard like SCS does to China or East China Sea.  Nobody would call it Bharati Ocean except Urdu speaking Pakistanis.  

 

It's a meaningless exercise.  India has many names already...  Official name changing has no significance in the long run.  It may only cause further divide.

This is beautiful chess move but opening was given by opposition. Although I was anticipating it before 2029. Net benefit for BJP here. Congress can't go against it if the prince just completed "Bharat jodo Yatra".

Coz galaxy brains...  Bharat is also India.  In constitution as well as in your Indian Passport it shows Bharat Ganrajya.

A welcome move. Many think nation started in 1947, before 1947,  there was nothing, zero.

 

The name “India” itself is a representation of western worldview. We ought to have our own view, see the world, religions, history from the dharmic lense. 
 

We constantly do deep introspection, but what about duo-diligence ? It’s paramount to study others, competitors from our perspective. Renaming India would be one good step.

Nah! It is a RSS or a good old urban myth. There are many who have ruled it out, including Tagore.

 

I want it changed, because it is in a regional language, Bengali which we can’t relate to much. Vande Mataram stokes true patriotism and rashtra bhakti for  being in Sanskrit, the mother of all Indian languages!

Agree, should have done along with A370 in 2019. They are giving unnecessary press to INDI alliance and increasing its stature. They had the upper hand already with Sanatana stakes!! Totally not needed and no masterstroke this

Also for Nehruji to award himself Bharat Ratna , he would have loved an award like  Jewel of India or some such thing.
