NZ has mentally scarred our star spinner Kuldeep, while our batters have treated Santner as some sort of legend.

We have to distinguish the difference. Santner is a fantastic possibly the best defensive spinner in the world. Kuldeep yadav on the other hand can leave you bamboozled. Fantastic offensive bowler.  This was probably the toughest track he had to bowl with no turn on offer and up against a proactive tall guy who used his long levers to good effect. Still almost got him.

klaasen is better than mitchel. kuldeep needs to learn how to cramp such batters for room

India should use it to their advantage. It will be a challenge. India cannot be scared of one guy and drop spinners against SA. All the other guys are not that good against spin.  If anything Klassen thrashed seamers as well.

It's not a given that Klassen would fire every match. Also there are other bowlers around who can take Klassen's wicket.

A wrist spinner is always liable to concede some boundaries but the attacking option he provides more than makes up for it

THis pitch had 0 turn for Kuldeep. It allowed him to hit through the line. This pitch required defensive bowling from spinners not offensive line. A wrist spinner cannot be defensive. He still has to use his guile. Same Daryl Mitchell couldn't read Kuldeep in a bilateral and trapped infront. This wicket helped Mitchell get away with those big hits.

Also never a bad thing if the batsman has no choice but use his feet to hit you out. That means spinner has forced the batter to take the last resort.

I said in match thread as well, I would be more worried if he was easily milked for 1s and 2s without any risk.

True. Hope teams back him fully. I have no disappointment one bit. He did not bowl bad balls. He had to take a lot of risk. It worked only because of the nature of the surface. It was slow pitch no turn. So he couldn't beat him either with speed or turn. It is just one of those days. But he paid a lot of respect to Jadeja as he was bowling defensively not leaving the stumps

Not only santner even rachin was bowling well. We are missing left hander in the middle order. I feel shreyas should be replaced with ishan.

+1 .. Shreyas is the designated spin hitter, but he has underperformed so far

Kuldeep scarred? OP needs to stop following the game on Cricinfo/Cricbuzz. On the contrary, this was a test of his mental makeup, a known weakness of his, and his second spell where he just went for 5 runs per over with 2 wickets demonstrated his evolution as a bowler. His redemption arc will be complete next Sunday against England.

Bumping this.

How clutch has Kuldeep been. The second spell against NZ at Dharamshala and the last 2 overs in the semi are testament of his mental fortitude.

Whoever is responsible for his return (Rohit, Dravid etc) deserve appreciation for backing him. Now, he needs to be part of all test squads.
