He had all the potential

His body just doesn't allow him to put burden on it

A little more effort his body just rejects it

While playing in the sub continent, a team won't miss a pace bowling AR too much.  Spin bowling ARs hv more imp role to play.   In SENA, pace bowling AR is a must.  We are lucky that this WC is being held here.  Not missing Pandya too much till now.

To be honest biggest problem is SKY batting at 6. Pandya in last few years has played some good innings where he bailed us out of trouble. Curbed his natural strokeplay and played like Dhoni used to, to stop the collapse. SKY can't bat beyond 50 balls on his good day, his upper limit.

Biggest bus that we missed was Washington Sundar. He could be developed as a middle order batting all rounder then he could replace Pandya. Would have given us 6th bowling option and someone solid at 6. Neither did he show any improvement nor did team give him enough clarity what they want from him. Injuries also stopped his progress.

Even now it's not too late, Washie is still young. He can be backed for the #6 role.

SKY is not reliable at all.  Thats why kohli has been asked to anchor the inning till the end.  And he is doing exactly that.

Sorry to disappoint you.  Washie won't last more than a couple of games irrespective of which format it is.  His fitness level is at par with D Chahar.

Agree. He seems to be made of glass, unfortunately.

If you look at the best players of ODIs at no.6 spot from this generation, the obvious names are :-

Buttler( keeper batsman)

MIller( specialist batsman)

Maxwell( batting A/R)

Pandya ( all rounder)

Out of these, Pandya is weakest not because he is not good enough but because of his injuries.

With his fragile body, a long career for Pandya was always a question mark. Perhaps he could have reinvented himself as a batsman post his career threatening injury, has the right technique and temperament. But that will require him playing FC cricket and missing out on LOIs, so unlikely to happen.

BTW at comparable stages of their career (no. of matches played)

Hardik Pandya: 86 ODIs: 1800 runs@34, SR 110, 84 wickets@35; 92 T20Is, 1300 runs@26, SR 140, 73 wkts@27

Glenn Maxwell: 86 ODIs, 2200 runs@32, SR 120, 45 wickets@40; 92 T20Is, 200 runs@28, SR 150, 36 wkts@28

Very comparable records, Maxie is a slightly better batsman, Pandya is a much better bowler. Where Pandya lags behind is number of 100s Maxie has hit.

Maxie is a spinner..if he were a pacer and the freakish injuries he gets too often..he would also be missing many more matches..

He is MOS of the world cup.

Pandya not playing made test team better instantly and now him not playing in this lineup has made this team unbeatable.

Bits and pieces players work only in t20s .England has shown with bits and pieces players ,teams go nowhere.

He's very important for balance of the team. But this WC has shown he's not indispensible. Previous WT20 2021 he played through injury because of that balance thing,

Also his attitude is a bit casual for me. Should work on his fitness and be extra cautious in terms of injuries.
