Although its easy to determine who is best in their "own" Generation.

IPL yes. But delve deeper. Sachin is the reason the IPL is what it is.

 

Sachin, Dhoni etc were the superstars on whose backs the IPL started. They carried the tournament to success in its formative years. Kohli became a superstar later.

Both played a good number of 30 matches together. Almost identical stats. There is one thing i never worried about Sachin getting out to a left arm seamer upfront. But the current crop has left a lasting psychological scar that i am scared of that even in final.

Dhoni Yes. Sachin No. Because Dhoni led India to T20 WC title 2007 after a disastrous 50 over World cup in 2007, when nation had lost all hopes on Indian cricket.

 

Sachin was not even part of the the T20 WC winning team in 2007.

 

I would say Yuvraj with his 6 sixes against Broad, the likes of Mcullum etc etc..all played a bigger role.

 

Sachin's role in T20 / IPL is minimal at best, non-existent in reality.

Thats totally false. 

 

It is like saying since India's GDP is more than Australia, India is richer than Australia.

 

Minus IPL income, BCCI earnings are only marginally better than ECB and CA.

 

When you account for the number of first class teams,  players, stadiums, state associations  India has relative to England / Australia  -- it is much much lower.

 

IPL media rights has been the game changer - making BCCI truly "rich".

I like both and glad they represented my team.

-More consistent.

-GOAT when it came to batting 2nd and chasing the targets.

-Rested against Minnows and less ODI's played due to T20. One could argue he would have broken the record long ago if not for these 2 factors.

-Never Opened for India. Middle order batters always have to either Anchor the Innings or watch the Openers eat major chunk of the 50 over Innings.

 

 

Sachin

 

-GOAT Test batsman

-Steve Bucknor screwed him over many times. No Technology to assist with reviews.

-Tougher competition. I feel the strength of Other Teams were more streamlined back then compared to now. As Cricket boards were Economically on the same level more or less. IPL skewed that later on in our favor.

-Tamed both Pace and Spin. Not many in our current side can play Spin with that confidence.

Sachin has not only played a hell lot of more matches than Kohli. 

 

10 out of Sachin's 49 tons were against utter minnows ( Kenya 4,  Zimbabwe 5,   and Namibia 1 ) 

 

Also given how Kohli has domianted Pakistan....this is not even a contest.

 

Kohli has not stats paded against minnows - he sits out of those games.  Sachin feasted on Kenya, Zimbabwe.

Time lines need to split before DRS and after DRS , before IPL and after IPL… 

 

SRT played when India was still a weak board .. there is no comparison … 

we should compare Gill and Kohli in 10 years time

It was never a debate once Kohli reached 40 plus 100s.Kohli is the GOAT ODI batsman. 170 less innings even with three horrible years of slump.

 

Sachin is not even best test batsman of modern era.Steve Smith is the best test batsman after Bradman.

 

Playing 200 tests and scoring 51 100s. .Other batsmen if they chose to play 200 tests would have scored more  100s.

 

 

It is very much like Novak vs Fed or Nadal. Once The GOAT put his foot down other two were blown away. Novak was the GOAT much before he reached 23.

 

23rd grand slam was just a coronation just Kohli's 50th.

Different eras , difficult bowlers, conditions. Sachin was best in his era and Kohli is in this era. You can’t compare openers to MO batsman who comes and plays when pitch haves eased out and bowlers tired.
