The importance of caste identity surpasses that of a Hindu identity, and my Kannada identity takes precedence over Indian identity. Caste Identity is indeed supreme in India & it will be regardless of religion. Hindus Muslims Sikhs have all been divided over caste. There is no running from it. Even vedic times were not free from it. SC/ST & backward classes will never fully accept the formation of such state.. Add in minorities & u get majority of the country against such a system. Divide would be enormous. India is de facto a Hindu Rashtra since beginning without the label... That's the whole point. Maybe when we crossed 15 trillion dollar economy threshold with a PPP equivalent to top Asian countries such changes would be easier to implement. For example Ram Mandir wouldn't have been possible to have in a 1950's India. Thandi kar ke khao... As saying goes.
