They won't bowl but neither are they aggressive like SKY or left handed like Jaiswal .

 

Which means you cannot accomodate Abhishek/Riyan type batting allrounders . Which then means you have to put up with Fraudeja and you cannot play a specialist finisher who can't bowl like Rinku. 

 

 

To top it off, Kohli will insist on not opening because he's the GOAT#3 batter and is useless against the new, moving ball .

 

They ruin the balance of this side from the top.

Supporting Indian team is a *ing punishment. Corruption everywhere, acceptable to lose because we lack ability (say 90s), but we aren't close to selecting our best squad of 15.

Just so we don't get our hopes up, we should avoid expecting any player who was not being picked regularly for bilateral cricket for big tournaments. Knowing our selectors and TMs this is a call you can take to the bank.  They still found a way to drop Rinku though. Lolm ll. 

Rest their actions don't dovetail with the noises they make. The press stories were about how they wanted a keeper - and by extension batsmen - who can bat lower down the order and finish games instead of more right handers who bat up the order which means they realise that we lack good finishers but they ignore Parag completely.

Kohli has to open If he is still playing and eben there we pay am opportunity cost by not playing Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma there because of they make it past the PP their SR blows Kohlis out of the water. 

Only other reason is eggsperience and this ability to 'arrest collapses' and 'bring stability' which I can totally buy the selectors and TM worrying about.

There is potential in this team to crash out and not be in Semis. 

 

It's better that way. Having hopes up to crash in knock out games is horrible.

If IPl is the criteria to reject Rinku ,they should have picked Ruturaj who is third in MVP list. Jaiswal wad backed there. Rejecting a guy with an avge of 89@176 is bizarre.

The whole point of selectors/management is to be able to make the hard decisions and look at what is working/what is not.

 

What they have selected is more or less the same teams as in 2021 and 2022. A cricket simulator programme could pick a better team than Agarkar and co.

 

India are simply an unserious team. Have no clue how to win tournaments.

I agree that Pant has not shown any consistency or composure in T20s. T20 is not just about power game but smart composed  shot making which Pant fails to demonstrate under pressure in limited overs game.

Very good catch.  I just checked.  Sean Williams of Zimbabwe played a T20I last year and was in the 2007 squad. 

 

Apart from that Bangladesh had Shakib , Mahmudullah, Tamim and Mushfiqur in 2007. Not sure how many of these will be selected in 2024
