Yes to that but the key point is that B'desh would've been lauded even if they had fallen short trying to go the SF spot. Let's say they were bowled out for 100 in 10.4 overs, they would've earned everyone's respect that they wanted to go for the SF spot instead of a win. That loss would've been much better than crawling and winning in say 18th over. The fact that B'desh fans, cricketers, their team management etc. doesn't get this point is what the thread is all about.

 

Can you imagine if India was in a similar situation and they played simply to win the match and not to make it to the knockouts of an ICC event? Can you imagine the deserved backlash in that case? B'desh wouldn't have a better opportunity to get into ICC knockouts. They were handed a gift by extremely negative and conservative batting by Afg. It was a 130-135 pitch and Afg scored 15-20 less than par. But instead of taking the opportunity and aiming for a SF spot, B'desh played the way they did. They lost a lot of respect. All the neutrals and the commies were puzzled by their attitude as well and I would be surprised if anyone takes them as a serious cricketing nation anymore. Even likes of US, Ireland or any other minnow would've gone much harder than what B'desh did. Disgraceful TBH.

You're going home anyways and win without going to the SFs is still a loss. Why not go all-in for a win in 12 overs? If you lose so be it but at least you tried to go for the SF.
