rangeelaraja Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 (edited) Saw an interview of Zaheer Abbas on some news24 channel today. I thought this guy was one of the sanest Pak former cricketers. Some of the comments he made aside from repeat references to the 1992 World Cup. " India is playing like the old Pakistan team, they are our successors " " Bumrah is bowling like some of former Pakistan well known greats who set new standards for death bowling " Looks like this no one is less than delusional in the land of the pure. These jokers will keep bringing up the 1992 World Cup win even in 2092. India is many times the cricketing nation that Pak ever was or can be. India's domination in ICC events ( minus the final hiccup ) since 2011 World Cup has been nothing short of LEGENDARY. Pak has always been a mid table mediocre team that sometimes does well in big games- once in a blue moon. Edited June 30, 2024 by rangeelaraja vvvslaxman, neel roy, Master_better and 1 other 3 1
vvvslaxman Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 When did Pakistan dominate 4 ODI world cups in a row just failed in the last hurdle. One world cup win they got was a fluke win. Frustrated, Ultimate_Game, rangeelaraja and 2 others 5

Looks like there is their silly nostalgia about 1992 and that fluke win will never ever end. Forget about 4 ODI world cups - we have been the No.1 test side for the longest time since 2015. We have hammered Australia on own soil in 2 back to back series - no team has ever done that - hell Australia can't dream of doing that to us on our soil. We reached 2 ICC WTC Test championship finals back to back...will reach finals of the 3rd ICC WTC Test Championship too. Unfortunately, the fraud ICC always allocates England as the final host ( a venue and season that significantly disadvantages us, as we play the final right after IPL ). It is disgraceful how the BCCI never pulls its weight in such situations. Pak is a cricketing minnow compared to India. Frustrated, Ultimate_Game, Gollum and 1 other 4
cricketfan28 Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I think even the decent ones are forced to say something that makes it easier to swallow, this is just copium.

England generates more revenue cause of pounds hence bcci is ok with them as hosts
R!TTER Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 That's probably nothing to do with it, ICC(?) takes the lion's cut of the WTC finale. Although I'm not sure how much gate revenues tilt it in their favor so that they host it every *ing time If you fix the format & allow finals in more venues across say the actual cricketing season you can have it anywhere in the world. But I'm pretty sure ICC doesn't care about that & they just want to mint money off prime time Indian TV audience! Just the other day that *ing tool Bumble was saying cricket's like a "religion" in India so they'll watch anything, when trying to justify his point about scheduling the games for night audience here. He basically wanted the games to be telecast at early morning in India & Indians to watch it because it's a *ing religion I can tell you even if it's a once in a lifetime event I ain't waking up at 6 to just watch a game

rollingstoned Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 What i think he is trying to say is that our bowling winning us matches reminds him of the way Pakistan used to win. I can't disagree with taht tbh. When they needed 30 from 30 i did think to myself we need Bumrah to do what Akhtar and Wasim used to do from here and that's what happened. NameGoesHere Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I was around in the 80s as a cricket fan. I saw those games. Pakistan were never as dominant back then as we are now. But don’t believe me, just compare the numbers. Zaheer is delusional. If a guy like Zaheer, usually so measured and balanced, can say this, then the Pakistani cricket fraternity is collectively and massively off their rocker. Gollum, G_B_, Mariyam and 1 other 1 3

I'm not snarking you, or disagreeing. But I can’t remember Akhtar or Wasim pull off something like Bumrah did. Which is that Bumrah single-handedly changed the direction of the game literately 180 degrees in the space of two overs. Against the run of play. On a flat pitch. Under pressure one cannot even imagine. In a WC final. Wasim of course is incredible. He’s one of my all time favourites. And Akhtar was very very good. There are plenty of instances where they tore opposition teams apart. But it would be great to get examples of where they pulled a Bumrah. Could have happened and maybe I’ve forgotten (again I’m into being sarcastic, just want to recall) AuxiliA, Mariyam, Ultimate_Game and 1 other 4

Paxtan were always a upper mid tier side in their peak days(talking about 90s ) We always had Aus SA WI/SL,they used to get mauled left right and center against Aus SA and SL even with Waq,Wasim,Inzi,Saq,Anwar, Even India pasted them in main events raki05 1

Pakistan at their peak were appreciated, people were wary of them, some even feared their bowling. They had rock star players - Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim, Waqar for a while, etc. But they were never dominant in the way we are. In fact, slightly change what you said, they were an upper tier side at their peak. Just one stat - what’s their track record in Australia during their so called peak?
Adamant Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Respect for Zaheer Abbas, but sir you are definitely wrong.

PS: Big matches only.
deathmonger Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Pakistan were never all that. They have always been a mid level team. In 90s they were prolly 3/4 behind Aus, SA, WI. But because they were better than India they believe they were great. Now not only are we better than Pak, we are actually the no 1 team across formats.
TellTheTruth Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I think he has a point when it comes to White ball cricket. from 75 to 99 Pakistan made it to the semi finals of the world cup 5 out of 6 times, winning once and runners up another time, thats not unlike indias world cup record since 2011. the one time they won it was largely due to magic from Wasim not unlike like what Bumrah did to finally win the world cup after 13 years.

Could have happened and maybe I’ve forgotten (again I’m into being sarcastic, just want to recall) Maybe I was being too specific or all those Sharjah series where they won matches defending scores from situations where you wouldn't expect them to is coloring my memory. One such match is the final of the tri series in 2001 which was against Saf itself. I remember the Aus league game in the 1999 wc too but that wasn't as close as this perhaps. When I think Pakistan, apart from the cliche 'unpredictable cornered tigers' I think of a team that has won many such games defending scores from difficult to impossible situations. Ofc it's not some hill I'm going to die on, happy to be corrected.
