Only top team that has never lost a bronze medal match Beat Germany in 1968 to win bronze Beat Netherlands in 1972 to win bronze (also last time we beat Aus in Olympics) Beat Gemany in 2021 Tokyo Beat Spain today After 1968/72 we repeat the feat in 2021/24. 1980 Moscow Olympic gold is overrated because Western countries and Pak boycotted it. Only Spain was a legit threat, USSR and Poland semi threats. Why Pak boycotted?

Ice skating is tough for someone who has never learnt it. Kids start skating at the age of 3, by 18 they skate it like it’s their second nature. I hate that sport because the puck is too small to spot and half the time the players start fighting bashing one another. It’s a legal street fight.

Ice Hockey is much much tougher and violent. Most of the top players have missing teeth and hitting an opponent is a valid tactic. It's an actual contact sport, and tougher than NFL, and you've to be extremely tough to play the game. A regular person can't handle those body checks in Ice Hockey. maniac 1

In people's minds this feeling developed because of lack of success in other sports till 1983 WC. according to my dad and my uncle, hockey was the sport they followed. my uncle was a college level player in the late 70s. they hated cricket. you are talking about generations born in 80s and later. those who were alive during independence were a separate set. boomers were the first ones to follow cricket as they were alive during 1983 and they would have seen India lose steam in hockey from the mid 70s. Gollum Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 India beating Aus in the final group game was the clincher. Overcame a huge mental block, and demoralized Aus as well....after the Belgium loss Aussies came back strongly to beat NZ 5-0. Holding GBR to a draw by stonewalling was very impressive both physically and tactically (and the clutchness in shootouts) as well but if not for Aussie game, our QF opponent would have been Netherlands. rollingstoned, Real McCoy and Number 1 2

If they had flouted US' orders where would they get all that aid and charity from? In 80s, Pak were the favorite child of US thanks to USSR-Afghanistan conflict and also India-USSR had a pretty close relationship. Pak was US' proxy in the region and Pak had to do their bidding. But when blues won i bought some memorabilias. It looks too violent at times. ALso court is not big enough for enjoying long solo dribbles. Field hockey is more skill based. NOt much physicality you see with ice hockey. You need agility, physical presence. THat is the way north american sports are except basket ball. Baseball no big fan either.

I guess it depends on perspective. For nations who get ice and snow for most of the year, those are the sports they play. They probably laugh at Beach Volleyball
