Root will Score most runs if he plays for 180 plus tests.

His inability to score more than one test 100  will be held against him by Sachin’s supporters. Those guys forget Sachin also scored just single 100 in Pakistan that too weakest Pakistani bowling attack on flattest Multan pitch .

Root at least has faced best Australian bowling attack till this series.

Sachin didn't play in Pak in his peak years. Played there as a 16 year old and his next tour there came 15 odd years later, then 2006 tour was when he was at his lowest.

Root tours Aus every 3-4 years for 5 test series, forget his batting numbers, he is yet to win a test there. Dravid also has poor overall numbers in Aus/RSA but made key contributions in test wins (and draw from hopeless situation) more than once there.

Personal preferences aside, I can't fathom why people hate on players just for breaking their favorite's record. No amount of cherry-picking can change the fact that Root is a great.

As far as Odis Kohli is head and shoulders above Sachin, it is not even close.

The absolute dishonesty to not acknowledge that Sachin barely played against pak in Pak at his peak.

He played one series as a 16 year old, one with elbow injury which was almost career ending and the third series(only one he played without injury) he averages 68.

This troll will do anything to put Sachin down.

No one is hating. The comparison is between Sachin and root and people are saying Sachin is better than root. That doesn't make root not a great

I agree that he didn’t tour Pakistan for ten years. It is not like he did much better against Pakistan at home he just scored one hundred at home also.

Two hundreds vs Pakistan for Sachin in 18 tests @ 42 avg vs 5 100s @40 for Root against Australia overall.

Root has been poor in Australia . Sachin was poor vs Pakistan too , some teams have your number it applies to everyone.

Sachin who had scored only two 100s both home and away was not in his peak at against Pakistan even though he played 200 tests.

Root atleast did okay against Australia at home which is not case with Sachin against Pakistan.

How many tests Pakistan played in India?

Kohli might have a great ODI record but he mostly played in two white ball era with no reverse swing.

Likes of Matthew Breetzke type players are dominating ODI format these days .. tells a lot about batting quality

Do you guys think Ponting, Dravid, VVS, Sangakara had fair records and performed everywhere?

Ponting was poor in India, Dravid failed against the best attacks he faced both in England and Australia, his runs came mostly in that 2004 and 2009 flat road series where everyone was scoring. Kallis was more consistent but he hardly converted his fifties in low scoring series.

Only Sachin and Lara were better batsmen than these, but they too statpadded a lot. Sachin has two doubles against Zimbabwe. Lara's 400 was in a drawn match where 1400 were with 22 wickets.

Is there anyone who is perfect in that sense?

Tendulkar toured pakistan when the tracks were absolute roads. He could have very well have made like 500 runs. It is nothing to do wtih pitches being tough.  challenge was greater. It was just that he was going through injury at tha tt ime slowly finding his feet.  Actual challenge was Australia and South Africa. Other teams were middling teams.

Unlike Kallis (who sometimes stalled at fifties), Smith converts relentlessly. Once set, he makes it count

Aus-Utterly dominant. His Ashes 2019 series (774 runs at 110) was Bradmanesque.

In Eng- (2010–2013)not great, but since 2015 he’s been unstoppable. His average in England is over 50, which is rare for visiting batsmen.

In India-Smith, though, averages ~60 in India ,better than Tendulkar’s home average against Australia. His 2017 Pune century on a raging turner is a masterclass.(Personally besides Pieterson's 186,setting up a series win on a tough wicket, tops my list)

In South Africa-Solid record, with centuries in tough conditions against Steyn, Philander, Morkel.

In Sri Lanka and BD- Hasn't played much there, but he’s scored runs there too

Tendulkar has underachieved massively. Eitehr umpiring or his self-destruction button in the 90s cost him a lot of runs. He never played percentage cricket like Kane williamson, Joe Root who just tap the balls to third man take singles. Many times he was playing enforcer role, counter attacker role.

He was way aggressive for his time while brimming with all the natural skill, didn't budge on his instincts

Same for Lara

stats do not tell you everything. anyone that followed sachin from the start knows that in 2005 post that elbow injury his style of play fell of the edge of a cliff. he was still very effective but the old sachin had gone. it was such a blow it literally felt funereal. a sad death of batsmanship like no other forever lost to the world. it was apparent from the shot making on your tv you didnt need to look up any stats.  of course a different sachin was born but nothing like the old one. no other batsman has ever made me feel that way, batsmanship that transcended the volume of runs.

Did he play 200 tests against Pakistan? Sachin scored 2 centuries in 18 tests and averaged 42 against Pak. Root scored 5 centuries in 37 tests and averaged 40 against Australia. I would say they are about even

Because he had big ego and a many times his big shots came after 100 which prevented him from getting big 100s.

tendulkar was ridiculously consistent and no stat will tell you that. you can analyse till the cows come home but the best measure of a player is how watchers responded to him at the time. that's your first hand evidence almost as relevant as the batting itself. when tendulkar got out for a duck it was front page news. let that sink in. which player today makes the news if they get a duck? EDIT even a single digit score made the news to be precise
