rollingstoned Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) India name Test squad for Test series against New Zealand 11 October, 2024 India named a 15-member Test squad for the home series against New Zealand starting next week. India have named a strong squad for the three-match ICC World Test Championship series against New Zealand at home. Jasprit Bumrah will act as deputy to Rohit Sharma with the rest of the squad sporting a familiar look. From the Test squad that played Bangladesh, left-arm pacer Yash Dayal was the only player missing out with India opting for a trimmed 15-member squad. A spin-heavy bowling attack once again includes the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep make up the bowling attack. No back-up opener has been named with the batting group similar to the one that was picked for the Bangladesh series. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are the wicketkeeping options in the squad. The series kicks off on October 16 in Bengaluru with following Tests in Pune and Mumbai. India are on top of the WTC standings while New Zealand, title-winners in 2021, are in sixth position. India’s squad for the three Tests against New Zealand: Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep Travelling Reserves: Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mayank Yadav and Prasidh Krishna Schedule for the Three Tests against New Zealand: New Zealand's Tour of India S. Ultimate_Game Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Siraj still in the team and Prasidh Krishna in the reserves Siraj needs a break, and Prasidh is nowhere near intl quality. Get any of the Duleep trophy performers and all of them would be an upgrade over Prasidh, and probably over Siraj currently.
singhvivek141 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 So, Bumrah will lead us in Perth Test in absence of Rohit, the captain. Yash Dayal is knocked off from the NZ series....maybe coz they're not able to find a place for him in the main team, hence getting him ready by Ranji. If he has to travel to Aus. Mayank, Harshit, Prasidh are just travelling reserves, which means they might just be there for the practice and may not play in the NZ test series. Not a good news if I'am being honest. tweaker 1

Dayal being kicked out means it has opened up a spot for Harshit for sure as far as Australia goes. Also Nitish Reddy is in the mix for that A/R spot especially Perth Test. Let's see how it goes unlikely that Bumrah will play all three tests. Could be a opening for Harshit test debut too. express bowling and Ultimate_Game 1 1

cowboysfan Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I am hoping for slightly drier wickets because of significant weather interruptions expected for all 3 games.

Man Bangalore has a sh** weather always raining. Shouldn't play there. A Mohali test this time of the year would have been a cracker. Perfect weather. nevada and jigjig 2

AKane Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Three pace bowlers as travelling reserves to give net practice to Rohit, Kohli and the peerless KL.

Call me a pessimist, but I'm not sure how Harshit not getting a game is opening a spot. He isn't in main team, he is in freaking reserves. Now missing Ranji as well. So, he's just travelling with the team as water boy and will give practice to Kohli, Rohit and others. AKane 1
