If we look at the complete rosters of all teams, I am sure we can spot at least 20 names undeserving ahead of him. How is he unsold? Is he injured? Seems to have just vanished.

Very poor in the last 2 seasons. Not sure there are even 5 undeserving names let alone 20

Two things. You either need to have personality or sponsors backing or game. KL Rahul with backing of sponsors is going to find a spot always despite not winning any IPL , not contributing anything significantly in a long time. Thakur should have released some tiktok dance videos, entertainment videos like Chahal. That guy actually helped Mumbai win Ranji. Chahar doesn't play domestic. Comes directly and plays IPL.

KL Rahul actually averaged 37 odd at 136 while playing at Ekana. Also can be back up keeper if required. Not worth 14 crore but then this is a league that paid 26 to Shreyas 

 

Thakur has lost pace, is fat, declined with the bat, and even at his best was more of a middle overs bowler only.  Couldn't make any impact with wickets last season and got smashed at 11 RPO 2 seasons ago. 

 

Ranji standards are very low. Even Unadkat won for Saurashtra.

He's putting himself in wrong category, I would say. He's supposed to be a bowler who can bat a bit, which means he'll come 9-10 and only gets to bat in 2-3 matches a season. And he's not a death bowler or an opening bowler which also drives down the value.

 

Instead, he should have marketed himself as a venky iyer, shivam dube kind of player who will come in middle order to bash spin and medium pace and provide some medium pace bowling option in emergency. He should try and get into some weaker team in SMAT and use his contacts to get him a middle order basher role

Any time KL Rahul scored runs his team lost. This stat indidcated only one thing. He just could not construct a proper T20 innings. There was  no tempo often times. He left the heavy lifting job to Pooran and Stoinis. He never took the initiative. A reason why he was let go. I won't be surprised if it happens with another franchise.

The market giveth and the market taketh away. it is an unemotional machine so no point complaining about it.

 

If he has set a lower and more realistic base price he might have had a chance. The truth is the teams have many younger, fitter options to choose from and probably found it hard to justify spending so much on an ageing player past his prime.

Chahar does play domestic. You have no idea.  Rahul is scoring runs every IPL even if at lower SR than desired. Chahal is one of the top wicket takers in IPL. Shardul has never done anything special in IPL. Even his state mate Deshpande has done better.  KKR did buy him for 10 cr two seasons back but had to transfer him because of his uselessness.

But that doesn't make him worse than Thakur. Not even close.

Thakur was part of the IPL winning side 2018 and 2021.  He was the leading wicket taker for CSK in 2021. In the 2021 final he took 3 for 38.  KL Rahul has never been part of any IPL team winner. He jsut won orange caps

I'm taking about current value. What Thakur did in 2021 is irrelevant in 2025 IPL. 

 

He went unsold not because of his lack of marketability.

 

Averaged 60 with the ball last season. 

 

And economy rate of nearly 11 the year before that. 

 

These are shocking numbers who bowls mostly only in the middle overs.

Mainly the wrong assessment of his value to franchises. Set his base price unrealistically high. Might have been picked up had he been more realistic
