Gollum Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Ashwin, Jadeja have been treated pathetically by BCCI, Indian fans. Hope at least Jadeja gets a grand farewell. rollingstoned, South_Paw, Bigg Brother and 1 other 2 2

Issue with India is the bowling backup after the initial burst. He can easily replace Reddy and play as a tight stock bowler. Was good in Adelaide. Nobody is irreplaceable, bro. Trust in youngsters, Washi Sundar is better than this version of Ashwin, and has high ceiling. nevada, Suhaan, Master_better and 2 others 5

Don't forget Mirpur test, his 44* was worth more than a 100. Just can't imagine us losing to the unlikable BD team. Lord, rollingstoned, MechEng and 3 others 1 5
Gollum Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) Washi must realize how lucky he is here. Otherwise no way TM would have given him a consistent run with the shadow of a legend like Ashwin around. Hope he makes use of it, and becomes a better test player than his mentor. He just babbles rubbish these days. In the space of a week he went from strongly suggesting Rohit should bat at number 6 to suddenly flipping to strongly backing Rohit opening. Then in another few days he became a strong believer in Rahul again. Just shows that regardless of the name and experience, most of what these guys come up with is random rubbish to rival anything produced here by keyboard warriors ! JaFanatic and Suhaan 1 1
Gollum Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 In a way, this retirement has done great service for Indian cricket. Now spotlight will be on other seniors, and they can't shrug off retirement question. Media/experts should be encouraged to demand accountability from them as well for a change. Even for people like Rohit, their conscience must speak to them when they see a development like this. Sad day, but also great day for Indian cricket, an opportunity to course correct and restore meritocracy above seniority/eggsperience BS. Ashwin's 2014 gambit put a serious dent on chucking menace. Hope his 2024 gambit ends this hierarchy problem. Hockey too subscribed to that till Sardara was pushed out, and now we are enjoying the fruits. @sensible-indian thoughts? These are only memorable games otherwise he saved Indian batters' arse so many times. Remember him scoring 90 odd in Kolkata test 2nd innings against England in 2012-13 series loss where Englnad had to bat again to chase only because Ashwin added 100 runs along with tailenders. Jaddu-Ash' worth is beyond statistics. Would have liked Ashwin retiring on high but this 0-3 loss ruined it. Huge void to fill. Lord and rollingstoned 1 1

Yes he had a good series against New Zealand, but we have seen this before with Pragyan Ojha, Jayant Yadav etc. Harbhajan was around for 3-4 years after Ashwin debuted, Ashwin had to prove himself.

Not as a bowler sure, but as an overall package he can match Ashwin. And is clutch just like Ash.
Gollum Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Honestly was never an athlete to begin with, not that talented even. Mental part compensated for those, thinking cricketer, bloody determined (eg. 51 overs spell with an abdominal tear in 2018 Adelaide), and clutch af. Like Shami, prioritized Indian cricket over IPL, and sat out of 2017 edition. So many great memories.
