wanted_desi Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Quote Shubman Gill has admitted that his “red-ball batting” is a bit of concern as he loses “concentration” after getting a start. Gill scored an excellent second-innings century (102) on Day 3 but his 14th first-class century, couldn’t prevent Punjab from going down by an innings and 207 runs against Karnataka. “Red-ball batting is a concern,” Gill told reporters in Bengaluru. “I think with the red ball, in the matches that I play, I tend to get a very good 25-30 and, in those moments, I sometimes tend to put too much pressure on myself to be able to convert those. “That is not the way that I have grown up playing my game. “There is a certain zone that I am in, certain intent that I am in and sometimes I think I lose that because I put too much pressure on myself that I have to get a big run now that I am set. “I think in those crucial moments, I sometimes lose my focus and concentration.” Gill gritted out for much of his knock, his first 50 runs consuming 119 balls. His stickability had been criticised in the tour of Australia, facing only 163 balls across five innings. “I think any innings that we play at any level, it’s very important to be able to get runs, get back in form and have that feel,” Gill said. “When you are playing well, when you are in that zone, it’s important to stay in that zone as long as possible and that’s what I was trying to do when I was batting there. “I think this innings was very satisfying for me, the way I played,” he said. “The first, I think, in 130 balls, I scored 40-odd runs, and they were bowling well and there was some help in the wicket as well. It is really important to play Ranji Trophy matches. I believe T20 team should be completely separated from Test team. ODI team can be mixture of those two teams as India doesn't really play that many ODIs anyways. bowl_out, cricspirit, rollingstoned and 2 others 1 4

vvvslaxman Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 You have to learn to bat long at some level until it becomes a habit. raki05 1

lemsip Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Good to see from Gill. He clearly has a work ethic and is young enough to iron out some of the obvious technical issues he has if he plays red ball cricket more regularly. raki05 1

Real McCoy Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Few years ago, Gill was the latest talent. Did well in Australia. Here's wishing he comes back to old habits.

tapandrun Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Do not think its just his focus, cricket is moving too fast these days and he is legging behind. He lacks power for t20is and technique for tests, he should work on those plus the kind of cricket being played he should add some kind of bowling skills too.
vvvslaxman Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 He plays with hard hands. It is not just concentration issue. Hope he doesn't think like that. He has technical issues similar to Kohli tapandrun 1
