sage Posted March 3 Posted March 3 https://www.msn.com/en-in/health/other/sunil-gavaskar-on-rohit-sharma-fitness-row-if-you-want-slim-guys-pick-models/ar-AA1A9BXL Gavaskar has consistently maintained that physical fitness and match fitness can be two different things in a sport as unique as cricket. He reiterated his stance by citing examples of stocky cricketers who have excelled at the highest level. "I have always said, if you want only slim guys, then you should go to a modelling competition and pick all the models. It's not about that. It's about how well you can play cricket. We talked about Sarfaraz Khan he was vilified for a long time because he was on the heavier side. But if he scores 150 for India in a Test match and follows it up with another two or three fifty-plus scores, then what's the issue?" Gavaskar said on Monday. "I don't think size has anything to do with it. It's your mental strength whether you can last the distance that's the most important thing. Bat well, bat for long, and score runs," he added.

sage Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Harbhajan Singh on Rohit Sharma fitness row: People with zero knowledge give sermons Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has extended support to Rohit Sharma amid the ongoing row over his fitness sparked by Congress National spokesperson Shama Mohamed. https://www.indiatoday.in/amp/sports/cricket/story/champions-trophy-cricket-harbhajan-singh-on-rohit-sharma-fitness-row-2688397-2025-03-03 Ever since her remarks gained traction on social media, they have been condemned widely across the nation. Several former cricketers have also expressed displeasure over her comments, standing firmly with the India captain. Harbhajan Singh also called the entire controversy ‘unfortunate’ given the immense contributions of Rohit Sharma to Indian cricket. The former spinner also mentioned that even cricketers have emotions and sentiments, and it hurts when people with zero knowledge give sermons.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 3 Posted March 3 @sage is more upset at someone calling Rohit "fat" than he is when India crashes out of an ICC tourney or when India lost to NZ at home Lord, Chamsi, raki05 and 4 others 2 5

LordPrabhzy Posted March 3 Posted March 3 the bar has been set so low for Indians that literal a fat slob whos been defended by everyone rather than saying look you are a great player- you have enough money to get PTs and get into shape while at the same time being a great opener. No one is saying become a 6ft ripped muscular guy BUT please atleast lose the belly flab fgs! Why is the whole cricketing fraternity defending this sort of mentality which can be separated from his captaincy/batting skill? Lord, cricspirit, raki05 and 3 others 1 2 3
putrevus Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) Rohit has ruined all the good work done by Kohli and Shastri. There is no excuse for being unfit and fat these days. Player's batting or bowling skills may erode or be out of form or have an offday. Fielding and fitness are non negotiable. You cannot be captain like Rohit and set such a bad example to your team mates. Edited March 3 by putrevus cowboysfan, Manucrick, Master_better and 1 other 1 3
Ultimate_Game Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Being fit is table stakes for a sportsperson. Can't understand why it's a debate or discussion. You can't have fat phucks considered for selection. There's a reason why Rohit barely lasts PP or drops dollies in slips... coz he's so unfit and slow. Hope once we dump Rohit, we actually adhere to a fitness standard for the team. Now you can't even enforce a fitness standard for the team when the captain himself is fat and unfit. raki05 1
vvvslaxman Posted March 3 Posted March 3 He can only complain about calling him fat publicly. Not about the fact he is fat. He is fat. Where is the ambiguity here. Manucrick and raki05 1 1

Frustrated Posted March 4 Posted March 4 If you want runs at the top order, pick a run scoring opener.
