rtmohanlal Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 instead of dropping a 'proven inadequacy' , making him test captain!!!!!!!! Expect for more white washes even at home......
vvvslaxman Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Did the conversation go anything like this? lol cricspirit, BacktoCricaddict, Ultimate_Game and 1 other 4
Ultimate_Game Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Shreyas Iyer deserved the captaincy and as usuals morons in BCCI and jokers in selection committee had other ideas and selected softie Gill with no leadership or performing under pressure credentials Kothili 1

Iyer was being bounced out by an ageing James Anderson last time and had clear issues against short pitched bowling. He will have to make his way into the test team before he can think of leadership. Gill similarly has issues. He has clear technical faults as well yet giving him the captaincy ( in which role he is untested) has ensured he gets a permanent slot. This experiment may not end well and could unravel after this series. The saving grace for him could be that this year conditions are more batting friendly than usual in England in June. putrevus Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 We have KL Rahul with his stinking avg of 33 not only captained India but has been playing over a decade after doing nothing. Gill is an upgrade over this bozo Rahul.
putrevus Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Very good start as a captain for Gill. Some players become great with captaincy.
jf1gp_1 Posted June 21, 2025 Posted June 21, 2025 Great start as captain on field. Even better start by hotstar for so effectively replacing cringe Kohli campaign with cringe Gill campaign. nevada, tweaker, wanted_desi and 3 others 6
zen Posted June 21, 2025 Posted June 21, 2025 The general average posted in the OP can be misleading as in matches involving Gill, only Pant and Jaiswal would likely average higher.

Long way to go ffor Gill yet , let us hope he ends up being great as captain.
zen Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 (edited) Gill is rocking! 100 on debut as captain, a 200 in the next test, can’t ask for more when it comes to leading from the front with the bat Edited July 3, 2025 by zen nevada, express bowling and Gollum 3
express bowling Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 Gill has upped his test batting average to 40.7 after only 2 tests as captain. nevada and zen 2
Chakdephatte Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 I know the OP will get trolled after this, but it was a legit concern back then. We invested a lot of matches on him and his returns were modest. He was probably not the best option for captaincy. Brilliant comeback this is Lord, Rondu and Adamant 3
zen Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 /thread Such thread concepts are becoming outdated. Now it is about letting selectors do their job and sitting back, while sipping a chai or coffee, to see how things play out!

Taking responsibility. Tactics need to be better but still young Laaloo, Chakdephatte and cricspirit 1 2
Vancouver Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 Gill averages above 40 now. Kohli was averaging 39 after 30 test matches. Gill needs to average 60 in next 20 innings to go past Kohli's career avg of 46. Gill needs to average 60 in next 50 innings to go above the average of 50. He is 25. Number 1
vvvslaxman Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 I kinda sensed he would do well after seeing his calm batting for GT this season. Captaincy and batting position change has brought the best out of him cricspirit 1
