He created a chance very first ball of his IPL debut against KL Rahul. Atharv put down a sitter. Then bowled a couple of expensive overs. That's it. He is gone for good. He is not gone. He was with GT this season.

There is a mass incentive for express bowlers in the IPL as we saw with Umran Malik who went for 8 crores next season. Then Mayank became a sensation overnight. Both Mayank and Umran became popular because they had atleast one high impact innings. Umrah picking fifer against GT and Mayank being too pacy against RCB. Even Kuldeep sen had his share of attention when he took out some big guns of RCB. All of them were picked for Indian squad. First of all these bowlers became popular for being pacy. Moment they lose it their stock goes down rapidly What do you mean by lower level though ? Genuine quicks have to be handled with a lot of care. Short spells and enough gap between spells and even between matches. It's hard to estimate how durable they are. Till they are 24 ish, the workload should be very restricted . Ideally, they should play 'A' matches and some domestic FC matches. The pathway for them is not the IPL

I very much doubt these guys lose the pace because they bowl more overs. THey lose because they are unable to sustain it. tapandrun and Rightarmfast 1 1

Guys with higher ceilings should obviously be fast tracked into A tours etc. Every country does it. What do you mean by baby sitting? There is no such plans in place, its luck if some1 get to play in domestic sides even at domestic age group level its not possible, older seasoned players with no to little ipl/ intnl hopes still plays and then bcci is asking its contracted players to take part in domestic tournaments and then there are players like bhuvi, ishant whose intnl career is done but plays for domestic sides because of IPL contracts and hopes. Its hard to keep up the motivation and keep struggling for a place in side. If SRH didnt find Umran in their nets then Sen would have been fastest Ind bowler who was playing domestic cricket , did any one knew about him before IPL, Simarjeet didnt get a good season of domestic cricket till last year, same with rana he was not finding place indel u25. If a player is not coming from age grp its hard to find a place and stay relevant in domestic circuit, even some coming from age grp are lost in all this. The thing is there is no incentive for Domestic team's captain or coach/TM to work on faster bowlers give them chance to learn and improve as Ind team itself is not looking for such bowlers, for domestic tm its why waste time and lose matches if they can play trundlers who are effective at that level. And then the hustle of injuries you do not know when the bowler is fit and when rest is needed how to control the workload. This is same reason there are stack of LA spinners in domestic circuit, no one want to invest in leg-spinners Edited June 12, 2025 by tapandrun Nikhil_cric and Suhaan 2
