Which ineptitude cost Team India the most in the Leeds test?

With 80 runs and 6 wkts to go, I am giving up and taking the L for Team India.

 

There are 3 glaring examples of ineptitude:

 

Inept bowling besides Bumrah, Inept batting after #5, Inept fielding. All of these contributed to the loss, but which one is to blame the most?

I chose Inept batting after #5.

 

There is no excuse to fold for < 50 runs with 7 or 5 wkts left. No matter what. If those batters had given just 50 more runs in each innings, other things may have fallen in place.

That along with dropped catches hurt India's chances bad

All of the above + I would add lack of innovation or aggression. Could have stepped on Englands throat multiple times but gave away the opportunity and went into our shell for some strange reason.

Batsmen could not drive home the advantage.

Nair, Thakur and Krishna are not International level cricketers. It is not worth investing in someone like them

 

Siraj needs to be dropped

 

Jaiswal needs to be called out and blamed so he can practice and improve his out-fielding

All 3 plus clueless captaincy,one thing is for sure gill is not ideal be it test or limited overs captain and gambhir is not ideal test coach,

This is the most lethargic display of cricket by indian team in very long time i have witness,bowlers bowling gun barrel straight lower order folds like pack of card fielders dropping catches Iam sorry but this is unacceptable, gambhir the test player was like this as well barring here and there moment pure lethargic and gill is like that too

Laoge kisko bhai nair and thakur Krishna ka to niklna bnta hai plus what exactly is gambhir done apart from CT Indian test team has seriously regressed under them,ghar main llg, Australia main llg ab yaha and bowling and fielding has gone to dogs

BCCI must groom the captains. Select 3 potential captains and make them the captains of Ranji side for non-consequential matches.

England is a better team, better led, over the course of 5 days the difference in quality becomes obvious. 

 

They outgun us in almost all departments, heck that chomu Mirpuri bowled better than our spinner. Individually we have some gems but how much can they do? 

 

NZ, BGT, this test must open our eyes to the fact that we are mediocre, and clueless about how to develop our bowling unit. Selection is bad, tactically clueless, give up too easily.....sabse pehle fire that farzi deshbhakt coach, rot starts with his prejudice against the likes of Iyer and Sarfu.

Decisions to make before next test.

 

1. Indian tail is pretty long and no matter whichever set of pacers they play, it remains long. 
 

2. Jadeja has been taken apart by Duckett. We will need Jadeja at home so time to drop him and play Sundar in next test as Duckett and rest haven’t seen much of Sundar here.

 

3. Bring back Kuldeep. There is no point playing 4 pacers when 3 of them are poor. You play a 4 man pace attack when 3 of them are atleast quality and 4th is there to give them time for refreshment. Better play Kuldeep.

 

4. Drop K Nair and instead play Nitish Reddy.

Not true. Harshit Akashdeep can bat better than Siraj Prasidh.

Lower order batters cannot even hold a bat when other team same lower order battters can easily do a supporting role at the least. We have 3 genuine number 11s who are worse than the worst no 11s in other teams. 

 

Prasidh is useless. Cannot even do a containing job in a Test match, forget about taking wickets. And his batting  - the less we talk about it, the better.

 

Selectors picked Sai Sudharsan based on IPL and T20 exploits despite < 40 FC average. His TN coach said that he cannot bat in seaming conditions. Yet, selectors continue picking Test team based on T20 exploits. SKY, Patidar and now Sudharsan. Why do we even have Ranji Trophy then?

 

The bowlers after Bumrah are all useless. Siraj, Prasidh struggle to even contain batsmen. Thakur can't even land 2 consecutive ball on a good length. He is all over the place. Jadeja is not wicket taking in these conditions. They are 100% reliant on Bumrah and if Bumrah has a bad day, we are royally screwed. 

 

Lord Thakur can no longer bat and can no longer bowl. His honeymoon is over and he should go now. 

 

Rishabh Pant should have been picked as Test captain ahead of Shubman Gill. Again, selectors to be blamed.

That is not batting but able to slog 1-2 boundaries. Shardul is better than both and we saw his competency with bat already.

No. Akashdeep saved Gabba Test batting for around 10 overs. Harshit has some ability too.

 

Anyday better than Siraj and Prasidh.
