It only looked difficult as jurel doesn't move to leg on time and missed some by a long way. Foot movement is key, Pant has longer reach down the leg and above his head despite being shorter
vvvslaxman Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Indian captains are not mindful of these things. THey don't think every single run is valuable. IN a tight game like this that was one of the difference. How many balls were drifting down the leg for 4. They should have a word all the concerned parties. Bowlers, Keeper. You have to check with them if they need a leg slip.

Eng & other teams rely on their tall bowlers to generate bounce and an occasional indipper to trap batsmen. Gollum and Stan AF 2

So they should have come up with a plan and given some cover for errors until they settle down.

Number Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Keeping in England is one of the toughest tasks. Jurel was keeping there first time. He had a few lapses and a few of them were also due to poor bowling. Unfair to make him a scapegoat. iluv80085 and Gollum 2

deepdynamo Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Don't think the byes were the reason for the defeat. Such things happen time to time. Its the combined failure of the batters in the 4th inning. As simple as that.

BCCISelector Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 (edited) Jurel is generally a reliable keeper. He had an off game likely because he wasn't mentally prepared to play and was unexpectedly brought in halfway through the game. I know it's a bad excuse, but it is what it is. Even Pant was a horrible keeper until the 2020-21 BGT. I still remember him fumbling straightforward deliveries, dropping catches and missing regulation stumpings during the 2019-2021 period and stupid crowds chanting "Dhoni, Dhoni" to troll him. Good thing the team management continued to back him as a keeper despite all that. Edited July 15, 2025 by BCCISelector Lord 1
Lone Wolf Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Those who watched the game knows that most of them were impossible to gather. Indian Pacers were way too inaccurate as well Lord and Gollum 1 1
Gollum Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Most of those byes, no human could have stopped them, not even Saha. Clear agenda posts targeting another youngster. Lord 1
putrevus Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I have nothing against Jurel, he is decent player but what I don't like is the hype he keeps getting from some geniuses. Making him number 3 batsman. He will get his chance now if Pant is injured to be WK. Keeping in England is tough, Pant was doing decent enough job. Everyone is human and mistakes are made by best WKs.We will cut him slack but his wk was awful in this test. To me he looks like he has decent antipication against spinners but he is still WIP against fast bowling.Pant is better keeper to fast bowlers. To me he is back up keeper just like Saha was to Dhoni. He was never good enough to replace Dhoni as keeper as a package. Pant is on another level as WK batsman than Dhoni ever was and why would we want to replace him. Lord 1
urbestfriend Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Jurel is #6 batsman , he should be installed at #6 for two reasons. He plays shots unlike the no stroke wonders that we have in Jadeja and Sundar..At #6, we need batter who can play his shots especially when chasing. Jurel is better keeper than Pant for spinners. Pant is a better keeper for fast bowler, but he keeps dropping catches for spinners. But Pant is overall better keeper as he keeps chirping which is a gread add, so Jurel should be played as a batter and not keeper when Pant is available. Unortunately we need a 4th seamer to give rest to the main pacers, and 2nd spinner as our main spinner is not so reliable, I think we need to play one of Sundar or NKR and play Jurel at #6.

Jadeja is our second spinner. Not Sundar. Jadeja despite having a lot of rough to work with did not flight the ball. I was hoping he would vary pace. Sundar bowled beautifully. Lord 1
