We never missed them. Every time they weren't part of the team, we won. Kohli running away from 2020-21 BGT trophy and resting during Eng series in India was the reason we won both. Whenever Rohit and Kohli played together in recent times we lost coz carrying 2 passengers wasn't feasible - we could carry at max one.

 

Look at our T20I team since those two, especially Kohli stepped down, and now Tests. We need to do the same in ODIs as well coz keeping Jaiswal out is criminal.

It was evident since 2020 that India is better off without Kohli. Rohit wasn't even a test player. I can see 3 players in this team surpassing Kohli's runs tally. There are so many still coming.

Rohit was NEVER great in tests in SENA.    Yes, Kohli was at his peak in tests everywhere (incl SENA) during 2016-2019.

This is the bane of Indian cricket (maybe other teams too, but I don't care about them). Star players tarnishing their own legacy by hanging on well-past their shelf-life.

Rohit was never very good in tests but had a decent run from 2019-2024 which helped India draw in England in 2021-22 as well as win some home series vs England (2021) and Australia (2023) when the MO trio went out of form post covid.

Check the end of career for Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman etc. They declined but nothing like these recent guys.

 

I once analyzed and found even Ganguly wasn't as bad as we thought at the time when he was a walking wicket to short balls. Ganguly was the subject of many jokes.

 

The decline and performance of Kohli, Rahane, Pujara messed up our middle order. Rohit just got fat and unfit for long form but still played few decent innings time to time.

What worked in the new team's side was that all pitches were flat, Let's see how they fare on true pitches. But then, most pitches in the world will be flatter. Also  the seniors were failing even on flat pitches against ordinary bowlers in the last 3 years.

Get Harshit Rana and guys like Tilak Varma in there.. maybe even Sarfaraz.

 

We could improve further.  Extremely optimistic about our batting stocks in future.

India need to find a way of being more ruthless in ensuring ageing superstars leave the team in all formats. 

 

There will always be talent (batting talent at least) and India should always be competitive so if players are not performing, they should be phased out regardless of past exploits/reputation.

Harshit Rana should be in the squad and I thought he missed out coz he was injured. Sarfaraz never deserved to be dropped and this has to be the end for Karun Nair. Nitish Reddy needs to be given more overs with the ball and we need to find other players like him. I keep on hearing about Raj Bawa - if he's good, get him in the squad coz you need 4 pacers away and we need at least 2 of them to hold the bat. Can't have 3 sitting ducks.
