It's production values, perfomance and music made for an unreal experience in theatre. Even today me and my school friends speak in dialogue of the film. "Subah ka nashta Jaunpur, dopahara ka khana". In fact one puzzle I have been trying to solve is who copied whom with that ending of fighter craft blowing up the tank. I would like to see a realistic movie of Kargil like Black Hawk Down or Full Metal Jacket. Showing the soldiers surviving in very harsh conditions. It is not about doing either X film genre or Y film genre only but doing whatever you do, both X & Y, properly. You can have a good Ingmar Bergman film and a not so good (or simply a boring) one. You can have a good Sholay or not so good (or a boring, repetitive, and generic) Sholay.

It might have faced similar fate to Ikkis now

It also again shown the sorry state of Indian Armed forces in the Longewala...where IAF was just a bystander and Army was alone throughout. In reality, IAF bombed the hell of Pak Army and their tanks for next 2 days and even the reinforcements arrived next day which bashed the hell out of Pak Army and they had to run away after 3 days of bashing. Pak Army lose 36 tanks in that battle...and IAF was responsible for 20-22 tanks, 11 were destroyed by IA while 3 were captured. Its like Op Sindoor...where Pak had first mover advantage and India was slow. But when India started retaliating, Pak forces were like a sitting lamb waiting for sacrifice. Lord 1

Watched it a long time back, but it was a surreal experience. That handpump scene has a separate fanbase. Some ATG songs as well. Nobody can play the angry young man better than 70s Big B and 90s Sunny paaji, both had/have amazing voices to boot. Vanga would have loved to work with peak Sunny Deol @kepler37b since he obsesses so much over masculinity and machismo. Laaloo 1

I don't think anyone can match the legend Dara Singh's portrayal but Sunny will come closest IMO. Some actors are born to play certain mythological/historical roles Like: NTR as Lord Krishna (Nitish Bharadwaj in Hindi) SV Ranga Rao Duryodhan and Kumbhakarna Sivaji Ganesan Karna Dara Singh Hanumanji Arun Govil Lord Ram Mukesh Khanna Bhishma Pitamah (the ultimate casting ) Rupa Ganguly Draupadi Gufi Paintal Shakuni mama Chandraprakash Dwivedi Chanakya In Tanhaji, I loved how Sharad Kelkar portrayed Chhatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj. A pity that the clown Akshay Kumar will portray that role in an upcoming biopic of our great protector. He already made a joke of Samrat Prithviraj in that YRF crapfest. Lord 1
