zen Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) Ahmedabad stadium is state of art. Something to be proud of cricket fans in general. Look at Australia, we hardly see terms like panauti being used when the team failed to qualify of SF in 1992 (ODIs) and 2022/3 (T20s), along with the World Series 1985 (ODIs). In fact, Aus has only won one World Cup at home - 2015. PS Even Eng which has hosted multiple world cups has won just one in 2019 (ODIs). If India loses, a player = panauti, a coach = panauti, a stadium = panauti, and so on Edited February 22 by zen Ravi_Shastri, Number and Laaloo 1 2

In fact when they lost to India in BGT there was a lot of talk of starting the Test series at Perth or Brisbane so Aussie team would've the best chance to beat us. We're asking for the same by playing at venues which play as typical Indian wickets and give us the best chance to be successful.

I did not get a good feeling about it right from the time i knew the venue. My BP has gone up too. Feel like abusing anyone and everyone, ruined my Sunday and mood for the week. We are now hanging at the mercy of South Africa beating WI, else we are cooked. We are all in the same camp so lets not fight. The real AO worth uniting and kicking like a dog is that New Guy pig. Peace out. Take it easy. Enjoy a tall chilled glass of beer or two like I am about to. Why single out New Guy? What did he do?

Moment they started using this venue for literally every important match eye brows started raising. Many guys from Gujarat have admitted cricketing culture is not that great in Ahmedabad. It was shoved down our throat. People can repeat his name again and again in the commentary he can enjoy it. This is not even close to traditional avenues in terms of atmosphere, vibrance, energy, knowledge, passion. Ultimate_Game 1

Laaloo Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Geniuses are saying if it wasn't for this stadium we would have won lol lol. People haven't really seen our history. We needed 3 ATG knocks from Kohli to barely chase a score above 160. zen and VT87 2

There were a lot of calls to start off the series at Perth and Brisbane instead of Adelaide and MCG after the 2020-21 BGT series. And that's what they did in 2024. Every team puts their best foot forward at home. I recall Eng forcing curators to make the Ind-Eng pitch extra flat to take out Indian spinners in 2019 WC. And the curators did so. Yet we haven't had any advantage whatsoever in our home WC due to poor pitches or venue selection.

I also don't agree with the assessment that Ahmedabad as a panauti stadium (not the best foot forward). India has lost many knockout games at other venues. Ahmedabad is among the best stadiums in the world. India can do well there too if it plays well. If India performances dependent on venues, it would have won every tournament it hosted so far including the 1987 ODI, 1996 ODI, 2016 T20 and 2021 (hosted in UAE) T20 World Cups. When you lose 2 out of 30 matches over the last few years in ICC tourneys and both losses happen at the same venue, it's clear that the venue isn't a good one for the team. But we force matches on the same venue when better options for the team are available. In fact we've sidelined Mohali and Chinnaswamy as well. I would say even Delhi is a better venue for us than the Modi stadium.

More over, in my book, Ind is not a top favorite because guys like Abhishek, Ishan, Tilak, etc., are group game performers. They may not be able to sustain their performance in knock out games unless playing an Asian team in the knockouts. Also no team has won back to back T20 world cups so that is a pattern against the team as well. VT87 1

IndianRenegade Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) The problem more seems to be the pitch, our batters simply don’t seem to have the game for a slow pitch. we could have scheduled a team that isn’t top of their group in Ahmedabad. Edited February 22 by IndianRenegade

Ashwin mentioned in his YT channel, that 90 % of the balls SA FAST bowlers bowled were slower ones. This is how well they were prepared. Our guys were complacent and got ruthlessly beaten for being lazy and ill-prepared. South Africa were way better prepared tactically. Laaloo 1

Yes, India increasingly looks like a team that depends on individual brilliance’s rather than a grand plan. it isn’t surprising that our answer to the off spinner opening the bowling has been an Hail Mary rather than that of a defending champion team. rangeelaraja and Ultimate_Game 2

The Realist Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Nah blaming pitch/stadium is the easy way out. Look deeper and there are serious issues with the team, coach and captain. Batters who can't bowl Bowlers who can't bat And literally nobody can field or catch Its a limited and one-dimensional team waay over-hyped after beating up teams in bilaterals which are just glorified friendlies. Who cares how many runs you make or wickets you take when you can't hack it in the pressure of a tournament. Number, Lord and Laaloo 3

Sometimes our disliking for certain personalities takes us over, happens to me as well bhai. Let us say if we name everything in the name of freedom fighters(Bhagat Singh, bose) or our gods (ram, Krishna, shiva), then 50 yrs from now, there would still be Rajiv Gandhi airports, Indira Gandhi airports, nehru, Indira vihars/nagars/udyans in every city but nothing in the name of say Modi, yogi, atal etc. It is about ideology and party promotion unfortunately. I am in favour of naming things after bjp leaders during their present tenures as well. The only risk is many people like you who will take it otherwise. I was the first to oppose during odi world cup, both India pak, and the final being given to this stadium. Suhaan 1
