Petition to fire fielding coach

Very disappointing! I thought with IPL, youngsters would be good fielders and here we're going the other way. There're barely any reliable fielders/catchers. Other than Rinku (who's not a starter), SKY (who doesn't deserve a spot in the team) and Pandya, there're no other decent fielders.

Was waiting for this thread.  We hv been the worst fielding unit in last 2 yrs or so.  In every match, we chase 20 extra runs due to dropped catches, missed run outs.  There seems to be zero accountability.

India has dropped 13 catches this WC,the most by any team. Ground fielding has been equally pathetic. Tilak, Abshihek,Varun C,Bumrah are all bad fielders.

We won the last WT20 thanks to our catching - Axar taking a one-handed blinder against Aus and SKY changing the match with that stellar effort against Miller. And here we're dropping sitters. Forget taking blinders and half-chances, here we can't even take regulation catches.

And then we have folks here blaming our bowlers and saying they need to be benched or Kuldeep needs to be played. Here we've 13 catches dropped on flattish pitches and numerous misfields and barely any run-outs and zero support for bowlers, and its bowlers' fault! What can Varun C, Bumrah, Arshdeep or Axar do when literally 50% of the catches are being dropped off their bowling?!

Seems like IPL has made players more fearful of getting injured - led to worse fielding and less experimentation / part timers

You would think players like to be multi-dimensional to differentiate themselves from others and to get into the team. As an example I would prefer Rinku over someone who is an average fielder.

The same Sridhar who was cursed by fans when he was our fielding coach got heavy praise from the new team he is working with. The fault is with our players.

TBF you don't need a coach to take sitters. If you need a coach to help fielders catch the ones Abhishek dropped today, I would question how these players came through the system. These sort of catches are expected to be taken at school level and here we're dropping them in a WC!

Exactly! Our fielders are making blunders in the basics which they would have learnt 15 years ago. The catch dropped by Abhishek was too much! The guy is so rattled that he is dropping even a simple catch.

That should be the red flag to give Abhishek a break. He isn't all there mentally. He was batting like a maniac against SA, here he was extra cautious. The only match he scored was against a hapless Zim team and there also Samson started the assault.

Sri Lanka before yesterday's match had dropped most catches in this tournament. Their new fielding coach-Sridhar.

Yeah their fielding was a shyte show against Pak and much worse than ours. So Sridhar definitely isn't making anyone better

Its not even about fitness.

Hetmeyer, who is, ummmm, to put it delicately, quite 'healthy', but he took a catch out of nowhere, climbing an imaginary ladder to get Tilak out.

Our players are fitter than Hetmeyer but can't even take regulation catches.

I don't think this is something a fielding coach can fix. The core problem is too many players who are slow movers, unathletic and cumbersome in the field. This includes the keeper Samson, Bumrah, Varun, Arshdeep etc. Rinku is good in the outfield but unfortunately he was missing due to a family tragedy in the last game.
