They have no idea that Sanathana is not equivalent to the caste system as is followed by the rich zamindars who oppressed the lower castes. But the rest of the country know Sanathana is about their core beliefs and it is time to educate the Tamilagans. I think they use the word Sanatana to mean Shoshit, peedith vanchit alpasankhyak words used by North Indians. Fully agreed. This needs to be brought out specifically that Sanatan and Hindu words are synonyms just like Bharat and India. But also a fact that every one knows this except these people. So, many are deliberately doing it to actually abuse Hindu religion. Just like every Japanese knows that japan and Nippon/nihon mean the same thing.

I would corroborate two things. My visits to these two states over last few years, which has left me quite shocked and disturbed. And politicians picking up this issue. Politicians don't need data. They know the issues. That's their livelihood and incentive. coffee_rules 1

Arrey google korbo dada. Examples of non-Hindu majority states in Indiaare Jammu Kashmir, Punjab, Nagaland, Mizoram. There have been many chief ministers from the minority community in Hindu majority states, spend some time on Google to do that. AR Anttulay, AK Anthony are a few examples.,

The real question is: why has it suddenly become so politically important after all these years? I am a tamil, an atheist (as my long unchanged signature going back to a decade will attest) who has made his fair share of blasphemous comments to enrage my religious better half & mother. I was not brought up very religious, but culturally I was brought up as hindu (if you know what I mean), I did not use the term sanatan, I grew up in a neighborhood where many of my neighbors were devout religious tamil brahmins. I don't remember them using that terminology either. That is all I could agree, I find your argument frankly puzzling to say the least. 4 hours ago, vvvslaxman said: I closely analyze social media narratives, especially on Twitter/X, and observe how coordinated messaging emerges. From what I’ve seen, this particular narrative is being pushed almost exclusively by BJP supporters. That itself is not the issue. The concern is how some of these narratives end up creating divisions among Tamil Hindus, often portraying people with different cultural or political views as “pseudo intellectuals” or somehow less authentic. If people in Tamil Nadu choose to follow their own traditions and social outlook, that choice deserves respect. Attempts to impose a singular identity or ideological framework naturally create resistance. The sudden outrage around “Sanatana” on social media feels politically manufactured to many people here. Instead of accepting electoral setbacks gracefully and trying to connect with voters through governance, development, or policy, there seems to be a continued effort to mobilize people primarily through religious narratives. The perception among many is that religion is being used as a political entry point into Tamil Nadu. A large section of people in Tamil Nadu do not even use or relate to the term “Sanatana” in everyday life. That is why many see this campaign as an artificial narrative rather than an organic social movement. BJP is an hinduthva party is not in question here, the people on the left aren't saints in this regard, the DMK explicitly courts Christians & Muslims on religious grounds, often shares stage with their religious leaders & appeals for votes on religious grounds. from my understanding the uptick in usage of the term Sanathana is inspired by the back to roots movement of using local/indigenious names like Chennai for Madras, Bharat for India. Hindu(ism) has been popularly belived as a foreign name, even though religious texts use it in antiquity. But thats beside the point, let's say it is BJP that is pushing the term Sanatan on hindus, whether to accept the terminology or not is upto the wider community that consider themseleves hindus. Its not like religions never evolve. But what isn't in contention is the term itself is not a fabrication, has textual basis in reiligous texts. The problem in my opinion is the Indian left's corruption of secularism that sets it up for failure as they define it. The left (indian) describes secularism as equal respect for all religions unlike the western one where the state doesn't involve itself in religion. Having professed this, then the Indian left takes a bulldozer to it. The problem here is clear: 1. where is the equal respect? there are words/terms for casteism, caste discrimination in tamil "saathiyavaatham", etc.. that probably 90% of general hindus will have no issues with. To pick a term that is considered as a describing the Hindu religion, DMK explicitly is making an attempt to broaden the attack beyond a narrow issue where a broad consensus exists, create division, appeal to its minority voters. Veeramani the leader of the idelogical parent of DMK, Dravida kalagam, when Undhayanidhi was on stage made the claim "Sanatham is nothing but hindu religion, & you need to understand it". When caught, they lie & say they meant something else. 2. The argument that tamils don't use the word sanatha is completely irrelevant to the intention of Udhayanidhi. It can be proven by a simple thought experiment, if tomorrow Annamali makes a statement that "dar at-Tawhid should be eradicated" or "The way should be eradicated". I would wager 95% of Tamils irrespective of religion probably will have no idea on what these words mean, but when it blows up & anger spills in the street, if Annamali says I referred to ideology that split the humans into believers & Dar al-harb ("house of war"), treated them as second class citizens, made them pay jizya, subjugated them & tortured people in inquisition, & had no intention to insult Islam, or Christianity. how would DMK, Congress & the left ecosystem react? how would Muslims & Christians react? Udhayanidhi could have just said he will fight for equality, eradicate caste discrimination. No one would have batted an eye, by choosing a term that he knew will cause issues he chose division. It isn't for him who is a self-proclaimed atheist or Christian (who knows) to define what Hindus should call their religion. As an atheist, & secularist he should either respect all religion or disparage all or pick & chose, that's his choise. But as a politican when he does it in the name of secularism & equality he fails the very values he claims to hold dear! There is no point calling BJP a divisive, when you do the same. mishra Posted May 13 Posted May 13 BJP did not fight In Tamil Nadu. So how it can win. Its just marking the leaders. For them, Bengal was crucial to win. Next where BJP will try is Punjab. Its just wants to take control of Border States. Once done, It will shift its attention to Decently Governed States

IT is not just about Udayanithi here, It sabout how Tamil Hindus that were portrayed by these online goons based on Udayanithi's words. I gave an explanation why there is less backlash among Hindus even the ones who were sitting inside. People don't associate themselve with that word. But immediately they start judging Tamil Hindus because they don't align with them. If you are going to abuse Tamil Hindus as "all are rice bags" and while seeking their support you will not be taken seriously. Between the Udayanithi salin and IT cell guys, it is IT cell guys that abused Tamil Hindus more. There is an organized attempt to create chaos in TN based on this. Some doing from within. As @sriharsha has mentioned it is viewed by general public not "as a way of life" . viewed "as a way making an entry into TN" Thsi is not evolution of hinduism. It is not just Tamils that raised this question. When you look through social media you can find these were raised by people from other states as well. outside BJP circle this is viewed as rebranding of "Hindutva" not some kind of evolution which was never needed liek it is a national crisis. It would be naive to think there is some holistic reason behind this.
