gs Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 First of all this generalization of collective Indian male ego is rubbish. There are plenty of desi guys who have scored foreign chicks without faking accent or bulging biceps. It is a common misconception that Indian men cannot marry foreigners due to this inherent inability to socialize. May be the ones commenting lack general confidence to date the "exotic" ones. End of the day it is ALL ABOUT CONFIDENCE. Some people have it' date= some do not. Second, dating non-Indian gals doesn't translate to marriage automatically. Perhaps eventually the guy realizes that his partner should be somewhat rooted to his culture and it would bode well for them in the future and hence traveling to India to look for a bride. Perhaps, it is the wish of his parents and he does not want to disappoint them. Just because they have gone to India to get married doesn't mean they have failed socially abroad. Perhaps "scoring" a gori is not the ultimate prize/trophy for some...perhaps they value other attributes as well. Vaginoplasty surgery in India is becoming more and more affordable and popular so not sure if that statement could be correlated with the truth anymore. +1
Laaloo Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 It's personal choice. Agar ladki ko koi takleef nahi hai toh tu kyun aise ucchal raha hai?
coffee_rules Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I have seen Gujarati families in NJ importing damaads from India as well. It depends on the family and how the girls are brought up.
Ram Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 'shop' for wife? Could you not have chosen a more derogatory term?
yoda Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Cause the retarded concept of arranged marriages is still prevalent only in a backward society like India. The NRIs who grew up in such a society and who still have pressure from family back home to go the arranged route have no other choice cause there is no one in the US to arrange marriages for them. If they decide to pick a bride on their own, many families will simply not accept their choice by either cutting them off totally or at best have strained relationship, especially if it is with a non-Indian. For many NRIs, close relationship with family back home is more important than finding a spouse of their choice. I am talking ofc about 1st gen ones. I know of many many 2nd gen ones (born and brought up here) who won't marry a girl/guy from India even if they came with a few million dollars and who end up marrying locally, either an Indian or a Caucasian.
SLICKR392 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 'shop' for wife? Could you not have chosen a more derogatory term? + I was about to post that. 'Shop', seriously?
punjabi_khota Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 What does getting laid have anything to do with getting married ? :dontknow:
moniker Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 It's actually the female that "shops" for a husband in India, it's her family that pays the dowry. :p
