I will correct myself - watching the bcci higlights closely - Akashdeep  action and lengths reminds me more of Rabada than Shami..

Akashdeep gets bounce off length and zip off the deck too. Pounds the pitch hard. 

 

We badly need a couple of such bowlers.

it looks he is trying hard as a fast bowler...mukesh never seems to be pushing himself hard.

sorry to say but a fast bowler has to work hard , push himself very single ball.

The process of picking new pacers should be simple 

 

1.  Make a pool of pacers who are either bouncy quick with seam movement or skiddy quick who can reverse the ball.  We need both types.  Add a couple who can swing the new ball at pace. 

 

1A.   Prefer tall pacers who are 6'1" +  while choosing the bouncy quick pacers. 

 

2.  From the above pool, pick those pacers who are performing consistently in any format. Go for low average pacers in FC while picking test pacers .. low average pacers in List A while picking ODI pacers.

 

3.  Remember that all the performing quick pacers at domestic level won't succeed at international level because they may be weak temperamentally or may have fitness issues.

 

Which is why a large pool of pacers is needed.

 

4.  Pick a medium pacer for test or ODIs ONLY if he seems exceptionally skilful or really tall and bouncy.

Bro, after Srinath, Shami, Bumrah and Siraj, we now have Akashdeep who has played 20+ FC matches, has a low FC average and has pace and bounce. 

 

We need more such pacers as they are the ones making it big. 

 

Who are the other ones who fit this bill  ?

Bowling pies at 128 k to 135 k is not what a fully fit Siraj does.  The usual zip is missing, the usual pace and josh are missing. 

siraj seems to be moody on field perhaps due to his fitness reasons and seems to be blowing hot and cold as a result of that. He too needs to be rested frequently. Dravid is always worried of playing with newbies.. he always wants the cushion of some experienced guys around the new guys.

Akashdeep seems to be good at reverse swing too... hope he can add a good inswinging yorker to his skillset

Himanshu chauhan, harshit rana, gourav yadav is very similar to akshadeep, brings it in, uses the crease well, yudhvir singh.

We wanted an accurate pacer who can regularly bowl 140 k+ with bounce and movement.

Akashdeep bowls his 11th over st 134 k to 139 k.

 

He is a bit down on.pace in his 2nd spell. Bowling about 3 kph slower.

 

That 7 over first spell may have tired him somewhat.

 

Needs to be given 5 over spells. 

 

Giving him that 7th over was a mistake.

Irony is that, the unavailability of eggsperienced players like Kohli, Rahul, Shami have paved the way for Sarfraz, Jurel and Akashdeep and they have done well.

Harshit and Himanshu are on my radar too. But both have played less than 10 FC games. It's unfortunate that Harshit Rana missed this whole Ranji season. 

 

Gourav is too old now.

Even Mayank Yadav predominantly moves the ball in.

Kartik Tyagi when bowling yorkers slants the ball in as well, his length deliveries are outswing and often gives lot of width to the batters since he bowl very wide of the crease.
