KL rahul In place of msd for odi/t20 ?

Dhoni is approaching 35 and he is not able to hit the ball. Also 10 years of captaincy got his mind cluttered into ridiculously defensive mindset.I am now certain dhoni needs to hang his boots.KL rahul is technically a better batsman. For experince in the middel order we can play uv for few years. Remember drawid also kept and rahul is better.

n rahul is playing under kohli and kohli has great regard for him...from what is see...rahul is certain in test XI as kohli is current captain

n in future ...when kohli take over dhoni in ODi's, then we will ceratin in T20;s and ODis...keeper/ batsman

Actually KL is not bad behind wickets.....in tests he might not do the role but certainly he is good enough in one dayers and T20's

Rahul needs significantly to improve his keeping to spinners.

He was always a good test-type batman and has improved a lot as a limited overs batter.

He isnt a full time keeper. Good batsman , yes. His List A SR is 71. Not sure if he is a good ltd overs bat, despite his current IPL form. He could go to Zim in the ODI team, see how he does there

In T20s, yes worth a try.

In ODIs I think we should stick with Dhoni, the player for awhile. Dhoni, the captain must go from all formats. Spread the captaincy around and have 3 different captains for the 3 formats. That way we also get to gauge each captain's strengths and weaknesses.

We've gauged Dhoni's captaincy for long enough and I agree he has to go.

But I prefer that we don't experiment with captains at international level. Gauge at IPL

We do need to find a successor to Dhoni. Plenty of batsmen can replace Dhoni the batsman.  But unfortunately  there isn't a lot of wicketkeeping talent in the country. Hopefully one of the youngsters will come through

He is a good batsmen but a horrible wicket keeper.

No one can take place of MSD. He, like Sachin is once in a generation player. Once he retires, we will be back to old days where our wicket keeping meant - Nayan Mongia, MSK Prasad, Vijay Dhaiya and Ajay Ratra. Happy days ahead :phehe:

Why wait, this IPL will give a perfect indication what is to come after MSD retires :giggle:

Rishab Pant is the only player I see now who is a proper batsman as well as a proper keeper. But he is very raw and will take at least 2 years to get ready for international cricket. His batting talent and hitting ability is awesome.

KL Rahul is a very good batsman and hitter but is not ready to keep wickets yet in ODIs and test matches.

Sanju Samson may develop in a couple of years too but he does not keep wickets regularly and that is a big problem.  He is a proper keeper though.

We don't have a good wicket-keeper/ batsman ready today ...... among the youngsters and that is a problem.

We can have a solution for this.

Ojha is perfect for 1/2 years and in that time pant could be prepared for national team.

I guess that has to be the solution for now.  Ojha is an excellent keeper especially against pacers but is prone to throwing his wicket away in critical times as a batsman.

:agree: But Pant has to improve during that 6 months

Quinton dekock was picked immediately after his U19 success in 2014. Similarly, there is no harm picking Pant too.
