sandeep Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Sliding from being hailed as the next Dravid, potential test captain to the 6th best batsman in the team happened quickly for Pujara. Will Kumble see value in Pujara @ #3? Especially overseas? Will he get some opportunities in the home stretch of 17 tests? It will be interesting to see how things develop with KL Rahul vs Pujara on the bench. With the "talent" being the other wild card into the mix. Unless Mr 200 starts putting up consistent big numbers, his long rope may finally come to an end. tweaker 1
sourab10forever Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Let's hope for the best. I hope all these happens before the 17 matches get over. *Virat's captaincy blooms. *Dhawan gets sacked F.O.R.E.V.E.R *Pujara proves his worth *Rahane and Vijay realize that test is there game. Imrove in it and remove plans of LOI cricket. *Bumrah get a chance in the test team. At least try him. *Kumble is accepted as the best thing to have happened to Indian cricket since Kohli walked in. renjith Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 If anyone needs to sit out it should be dhawan and not pujara. When there are lots of quality batsmen in domestic circuit, what is the need to teach basics to a hack just before a test series and risk him in opening position. tweaker, express bowling and Bigg Brother 3
express bowling Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) Pujara has proved his worth on spinning tracks. He has showed his potential against pace in the test series in SA....but needs to be more consistent in outside-subcontinent test matches and work hard to remove his weakness against the incoming ball. The fact that he is not a LOI player is perhaps causing some mental setbacks for him...which he needs to remove. May do so in this stretch which has 17 test matches and he will feel that he is an integral part of team India. Edited July 5, 2016 by express bowling

The innings in Sa came in 2nd innings when teh pitch flattened out and more imp philander n morkel got injured same time so they only had to face Steyn, kallis, duminy , kallis, tahir. He just had to see of steyn's spell and other were easy on a baked surface. For me he hasnt proved anything overseas and more importantly his weakness against incoming ball had been exposed really badly. Yes his innings against SL is to be rated extremely highly but still that doesnt change his overseas failures. It was really disappointing to see him nt going to county this year. He may get runs against a Wi attack who may bowl few gud over but then wud end up spraying around and then home series where he bats like bradman but then does it guarantee that he has improved overseas. We may say that its not easy to score in 1st overseas series but that Sa tour was his 2nd and he failed everywhere else be it eng, nz, aus. I'd rather give Rahane time to settle in that role , i always beilve give ur best batsman more deliveries and the guy gives me assurance with his perfomance. And even if pujara fails at 5 i have manish pandey n nair as backup to send at 5 but if pujara's game doesnt improve Rahane wud have no time to adjust to 3 and we dnt have a new player to send at 3 as well. Ohh and there was a report i read- "There were some reports doing the rounds that Cheteshwar Pujara would be demoted in the batting order according to proof seen in the training session. On one occasion when batsmen were called in order, it was Ajinkya Rahane who got called up at No.3, with Pujara coming much later at No.6, after Kohli and Rohit Sharma. This might indicate that Kumble is considering making Rahane the Test No.3 ahead of Pujara starting from the tour of West Indies later this month." tweaker Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Pujara is now certainly not the same player as he was when he started his career.Pujara should be given this 4 test in WI to cement his place in the side because there are many more young batsman waiting to break in the squad sourab10forever 1
Laaloo Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Pujara needs to start converting his starts. 30, 40 runs are useless. Need to make the big ones AKA England 2012 series. sourab10forever 1
sandeep Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 Definitely has issues with the incoming ball, and with his conversion rate. And will be under pressure for the limited chances he gets. But so what? Aint easy getting to bat for Team India. Got to get it done. sourab10forever and Ankit_sharma03 2
FischerTal Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 with rahul, nair and iyer (later on) waiting, he won't get too many chances. WI and Eng tests are his only opportunities. make them count tweaker 1

rkt.india Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Dont know why people are always on the back of Pujara. I dont think we have a better #3 than him at this point. He was our bets batsman in the only test he played in SL on a seaming track and again, he was for me our best batsman against SA at home along with Vijay on those low scoring pitches. Lannister Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Rohit is the ultimate FTB in LOIs and Pujara is another FTB in Test cricket, who is also mentally weak. We can't have such an inconsistent player bat at number 3 position. It's time to look beyond Pujara and invest in some other players. Would love to see this batting line-up, Vijay Rahul Manish Pandey Kohli Rahane Naman Ojha/Samson tweaker 1
G_B_ Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 hmm hard to say. Kumble was with MI for a while and Rohit is the captain of MI. Kohli seems to be set to play 5 bowlers. So its always going to boil down to Rohit v Che

maniac Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 On a Bouncy Track-Rohit any day....best player of raw pace in India Spinning track-Yes Che But why does it have to be a Rohit vs Che debate? tweaker and sourab10forever 2
Silva Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Pujara averages 50+ batting in the top 3 and rohit seems uncomfortable batting that high up the order, rahane and kohli seem to be cemented at 4 and 5. so his only competition is dhawan and lokesh for the time being.
