maniac Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) While we keep recycling Yuvraj,Nehra,Harbhajan etc....Look at England....they are inducting some of the most exciting talent in to their international teams these days.....In the last 6 months we saw Mark Wood who bowls at 150....a good exciting prospect like Jake Ball who took 5 wickets recently.....Tymal mills another express bowler......Exciting hitters like Roy,Duckett,Billings etc.......Going back a year or 2....Hitters like Hales.....Allrounders like Woakes,Stokes. They just keep getting these young exciting players and giving them a chance while on the other hand apart from Pandya or to some extent Pandey we haven't seen any fresh or exciting players given a shot. I was not happy with Kohli going back to Gambhir....he should have given Nair and also rested one of the fast bowlers and played Shardul. I may be in the minority but Chappell era was the most exciting....Sreeshanth,RP,Munar,Raina,Gambhir etc etc were all tried to see what sticks.....even likes of Venu Gopal Rao,VRV Singh etc who turned out to be failures came in with a reputation of being exciting prospects. Even Australia keeps inducting these new talents in these bilaterals which have lost the charm they once had......It is different case that apart from Zampa no one has actually caught the eye in recent times but still they have tried every prospect and as a viewer you are excited to see who can be the next big thing. New Zealand under Mccullum was bringing these exciting players even though the country has a limited pool. I am not sure why we are sticking with over the hill players and TTF. There are no can't miss talents which are there and that is one of main reasons why Rohit has gotten so many chances to prove himself.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Im one of the in minorities who beileved regd chappell era was exciting , something which we were not ready for. Im completely agree that fresh lot of players have to come in specially in short formats. Recycling same players again n again is bringing nothing new to the table, They are still extremely inconsistent. Giving yuvraj singh 20 games and having pateince that he comes good in what doesnt achieve anything. Rather invest in a young player like Pandya and give them 20 games have patience for them rather an x-player. Infact all these x-players have become slow in field as well which is like a liability, whereas the young might atleast wud be an asset on field. Gambhir got a chance, and to be fair to him he played a fighting knock and now he deserves to be in squad coz he has earned. But would this gambhir be of any use when he travels to Sa, Aus, ENg at age of 36 with slow reflexes and technique which i have serious doubts on. Yuvraj singh was asked to give a fitness test before Odi series, what mssg did it send out that he can still make it despite duleep trophy failures. Bhajji was given games in Bang n SL when that could have been a time to rope in a young spinner may be like Jayant or rasool. They may have failed but so did bhajji. One of the biggest areas we fall back is fast tracking fast bowlers, The reason pakistan produce good fast bowlers is coz they are fast tracked early rather going through a poor system. Same with SL cricket and now bangladesh who is reaping results from it. There is something we could learn from cricket around the world how to fast track players with X-factor. Someone like Kuldeep could be bought in for mishra or other spinner on which we have wasted time on. Look how Sa got in shamsi and Sl got Lakshan Sandakan and the results are there to be seen. We could not even take Someone with ability of Pandya to Zimb but instead we choose for Rishi. Something even Ipl franchises have gotten better over the year, yet bcci is sticking to same old school. maniac and tweaker 2
sandeep Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 First of all, test cricket and LOI cricket are 2 separate beasts. But on ODI and T20s, definitely Indian selectors have been way super conservative to the detriment of the team's fate. I've posted multiple times about the on-going evolution of LOI batting and India are still stuck in the 2000 generation - the current formula is a low risk low reward approach that ensures about 300, but also ensures that we would not get anywhere close to 350+. And on flat wickets we will fall short against quality teams. Posted this just before the T20 world cup... We need fresh blood and fresh thinking in the LOI teams. And its not all Dhoni's fault as some posters here like to believe. tweaker 1

It was kohli who asked for Bhajji and yuvi in his Ipl team Results may have not gone in his favour but he never went back on seniors just for the sake . IF someone like Nehra n yuvi was picked in t20 they were picked acc to format. In test cricket i beileve new players can be blooded in like an opener and someone like kuldeep yadav. Infact we need to start looking for an all rounder m glad that Pandya got to play on A-tour but it was by chance not by selectors smartness Edited October 12, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03

And its not all Dhoni's fault as some posters here like to believe. If you look at the OP....I was pretty much pointing to the LOI lineups because Eng and Aus that I have quoted as examples have pretty much the same core teams when it comes to tests. India can have a core team in tests, nothing wrong but when there are injuries they should use that as a way to induct new blood and this has had a success rate too....like recently with Rahul.....even Dhawan had grabbed his chance when Gambhir and Sehwag were dropped. But to give these backup players an exposure to international cricket...these meaningless bilaterals should be used as a perfect opportunity. You are 100% right about the WT20 when we had 3 over the hill players in the side....even though Nehra and Yuvraj did perform ok but nothing that states that their experience was invaluable in our WT20 performance......as we saw the WT20 was pretty much a one man show. We just don't have the reserves.....right now the No5/6 position in ODI's is either Yuvi-Raina cycle....Opening it is Dhawan-Rahane.....Pandey has broken into the side big time and so has Rahul but still there is no guarantee that they will make it to the final X1 unless there are injuries.
Mosher Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 I think it is high time to pick Kuldeep Yadav. Which other players do you think has the potential to do well in ODI/T20 right now?

Sran needs to be played and focus needs to be put on his fitness and constantly needs to be worked on his skills. These are the names I got....any more suggestions? tweaker 1

Lannister Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 It's unattractive to watch old players running around on the field. There is no intensity shown to win matches, it's been going on for a while now with Indian Cricket. express bowling and tweaker 2

Smacked 17 year old boys in one slog-fest of an innings in the Under-19 WC. By that yardstick get that Pranav kid who scored 1000 runs against 8 year olds in the list also.
mishra Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Anyone thinking Chapell's era was exciting must also find Saas bahu soaps exciting too. It was a period of creating srama when all of it could have been avoided. Now, Coming back to England thing, There is a very healthy and a very well funded domestic competition along with a rewarding Central contract system. There is more money than ever for cricket. They can do more research facilities and growing number of Asian crowd has made English cricket
mishra Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 ^ Hence they got talents exciting enough to Induct. Unlike India where talent is there but goes wasted for lack of facility, favoritism. Test cricket, T20 and odi are three different things. In india, IPL has become pinnacle for most cricketing talents. Even our Pujara wanted to play IPL. Can blame him for wanting to play but disparity between the leagues be resolved ASAP else we will be collating test cricketer from a pool of IPLites
WC2011INDIA Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Pandya bros are the new Pathan bros. One does seam bowling and other is a spinner. Both can bat, but elder one is awesome against spin bowing. Use them while they are young and have the flair else it will be too late.

You need to follow more cricket. I want Pant to be tried not because he bashed U19 kids but because he played some good innings in IPL against decent attacks and more recently in a ranji game against Assam smashed 146 which included 8 sixes. We are talking about youngsters who have the potential to do well and Rishabh is certainly one of the most exciting talents we have. Bleed-Blue 1
Sooda Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 The England Lions system is well structured and ensures that players are 'ready' as they can be before earning a senior cap. India have only just started taking A tours seriously, and they should do it so that a player can not player for India unless he has done well for the A team. sandeep 1
