The Playing XI going forward...

Recommended Posts

I don't see Rahane getting selected in the squad of 15 again after this series. Most likely will be dropped when squads for next 2 games are announced. Even if he retains his spot and manages to score some runs in next 2 games, he will still be booted out.

KL Rahul is the backup opener or groom him as #5. That will depend on him and selectors as well as management. Ideally, he should be opening but Dhawan is still gun in odis. Since KL has the power game he can be utilized at #5.

Here is the possible playing XI going forward -

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Dhoni

KL

Pandey

Pandya

Ashwin

Jadeja

Umesh/Shami

Bumrah

Or

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Dhoni

Pandey

Raina/jadhav

Pandya

Ashwin

Jadeja

Umesh/Shami

Bumrah

Or

Rohit

KL

Virat

Dhawan

Dhoni

Pandey

Raina/jadhav

Pandya

Ashwin

Jadeja

Umesh/Shami

Bumrah

Rahane is an excellent fielder. Better than most except Jadeja..but that's not enough to be part of squad let alone playing 11. Remaining 3 in the squad will be back up bowlers in case some bowler gets injured or out of form.

In ODIs....Dhawan in the last 2 years average almost 47 with with SR  of 92.   Scored runs away from home and at home too.

His overall average of almost 44 and SR  of 90  is very good too

Don't know what your obsession with Dhawan is - I will take KL Rahul in the form he is in any day over Dhawan who is just a hack and not a match winner.

Rohit unfortunately will get a long rope because of his big record scores on the top whether we like it or not.

Once Ashwin, Raina and Jadeja comes - Jadhav/Pandey is gone. No space for one.

The reason we won CT2013 was because of Dhawan. The reason we had a decent showing in WC2015 was because of Dhawan. Dhawan is not an all conditions player. He is patta/coming on to the bat specialist. Most pitches around the world are like that. If Dhawan performs poorly in 5-6 matches continuously after he returns then replace with KL. But for now we need to persist because of his performance in 50 over tournaments.

Dhawan is one of the top opening bats in the world and arguably the biggest big match player in cricket today.

Let's not confuse test performances with ODIs .

If thats ur squad , where is ur 6th bowler. What if any bowler has a bad day where are u gonna find people to fill those overs. Also arent u pushing pandey to low

Yes dhawan has been terrific but thats were we need to give team more importance than individual.

To adjust dhawan i have to push either KL rahul or dhoni down- u think its right?

ill also have to sacrifice 6th bowler??? where is the 6th bowler in that case? where wud u go if pandya gets a beating like yesterday??? Soon teams will figure out this and start to target our one bowler knowing we dont have anyone to fall back.

A player like KL rahul will cause more destruction if he gets fulll overs. Dhoni is an xample that how his game dropped overs the years due to lack of time he gets in middle.

A statement from kohli- that a player shud bat in close position in all formats .

Rule with ODi is simple give ur best batsman more overs this is a statement that comes from ganguly .

Its not that we dont have option below, Raina is good enough to bat 30-40 balls but giving Rahul 50-60 balls is a waste of such talent.

Dhawan has done well  but he also has given us a chance to ques his place, is anybody ques Rohit or kohli's place. I beilve rahul would be better than Dhawan and he ll have an impact like rohit n kohli. Dhawan has been a sitting duck in moving conditions while opening . Do u want to continue being happy with batsman who does well on flat decks and ducks on tough times.

Rahul opening gives more balance and right position for everyone to bat . He also gives an option of playing 6th bowler which is a must. Dhawan has done really well but Rahul wud be one step higher. He has been really good but he is not irreplaceable .

So is all about whats better for team not for individual.

Dhawan is useless..

Scored run a ball fifty in SA series when we were chasing 438 and he was missing in 4 odis.

Again scored selfish fifty in must win game at MCG after he was gving his wicket to Joel Paris in earlier odis and then scored century in dead rubber.

Nothing in t20 wc..

What is this obsession with Dhawan? Its been 1.5 year since 2015 wc.

Rohit is hundred times better than him.

Majority of Rohit's big hundreds and the 2 double hundreds have come batting first when there is zero pressure of chasing. He is no where as good when chasing. Not even 1/4 as good.

I'm concerned that Rahul is going to get pigeonholed as the "3rd Opener" and will not be able to displace Jadhav in the middle order - which I don't agree with.  Rahul got injured at a very bad time - this series would have given him the chance to really seal his ODI place, and then they might have shuffled the batting order to include him.  With Jadhav doing well, he's going to ride the ODI bench for a while - and I'd pick Rahul over Jadhav in a heartbeat.

This is the second time hes got injured at the wrong time . Needs to make a good comeback again lol

This is the team I would pick .

Rahul

Mayank

Virat

MSD (Wk/C)

Sarfaraz

Raina

Pandya

Jadeja

Ashwin

Shami

Yadav

I'm sure Dhoni won't mess up with Rohit, Dhawan on the top...

KL in the middle order seems an excellent addition... He along with Pandey seem the best options for 5 and 6..

So, option 1 it is for me.. My only concern with that line up is that there are exactly 5 bowlers.. We don't have a Raina, Jadhav, Yuvi kind of batsman who can bowl 3-4 quick overs if a main bowler leaks runs or is injured.. Can we trust Kohli with that? or the 'Gun' bowler?

Option one would be great if Pandya was a seasoned pro who could be relied on for 10 overs every game. However I think Raina/Jadhav will be considered purely for an additional bowling option to reduce the burden on him. With Rahul being in great form, Shikhar is probably the fall guy to accomodate one of them.

Absolutely, a 6th bowler is must. Specially its to soon to rely on Pandya for 10 overs. Even if we does well any other bowler could have an off day. We dont have the luxury of sachin, sehwag, yuvi as part timers.

Dhoni at 4 changes everything! I initially thought the following line up would be great -

Rohit

Rahane/Dhawan

Kohli

KL

Pandey

Dhoni

Pandya

Jadeja

Ashwin

Bhuvi

Shami

But now it will be line this - (?)

Rohit

Rahane/Dhawan

Kohli

Dhoni (why?? :()

Pandey

Jadhav/Raina (:()

Pandya

Jadeja

Ashwin

Bhuvi

Shami

Why so much debate , KL rahul is the must in all formats
.In ODis he will bat at No. 5. Pandey cant bat at 6 so he should be dropped for raina..
Raina will be our 6th bowler.. We will chhose between pandya /jadega or both according to conditions

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Dhoni

Rahul

Raina

Pandya

Ashwin

Bhuvi

Shami

Bumrah

Reserves
Jadega

Pandey/rahane

umesh

mishra

Now are we going to blame Pandey too if he fails at 6 which is not his usual spot. KL and Pandey are the perfect players to bat at no 4 and 5 respectively. Dhoni is just going to make their lives difficult if he comes in at 4. lol No matter where he plays you get the feeling that he doesn't belong with these guys. Take a retirement and gtfo.
