PP scored 50s opening against the likes of Akhtar and Anderson, how about their performances against the new ball in test match conditions?@maniac

Rohit is not an opener in tests,he is given the thankless job of being the enforcer...He is being used as a linebacker when the guy is a quarterback+fullback rolled into one

I would have Rohit Sharma fielding behind the stumps without gloves than have Parthiv keeping....that is the gulf in class of their fielding abilities alone-Rohit 1 Parthiv-0

Parthiv can't bowl and Rohit has this grossly under-utilized off-spin which again I repeat needs to be utilized a lot more...it is world class,so on that basis Rohit 1 Parthiv-0

Batting Parthiv is credible even though he can not win you games singlehandedly....he is a credible supporting act...this is like comparing Amitabh Bachchan in his prime with say Kader Khan...Kader Khan is a good actor and will be consistent and competent but Amitabh will deliver a blockbuster on his own, even raise above mediocre material to make a film a blockbuster..Batting Rohit-1 Parthiv-0.5

Mental degeneration of opposition-Rohit is a master sledger and has the respect and fear of the opposition....there is always a fear factor of what he is going to do....Presence Rohit-1 Parthiv-0

Cricket acumen-Rohit is the captain of one of the most successful franchises in IPL history,Parthiv has been that utility floater...so Rohit 1 Parthiv-0

Overall Rohit 5 Parthiv-0.5 which means Rohit is 10 times the player Parthiv ever will be

Final score:
Rohit: 5 * 0 (0 for dodo brain) = 0

PP: 0.5 * 1 (for ok brain) = 0.5

So you think tailunt can/should open in tests?  Your NFL comparisons are amazing btw.  Just pure dynamite.  Napolean dynamite.

Kohli at 3 rohit at 4

Why not have tailunt open or be #3?  Why hide him behind the openers and Kohli if he's as good as you believe?  If Party Patel can open after keeping wicket for 2 days and score 50s against the likes of Akhtar and Anderson, wouldn't that make him a better option then?

I want to point out again that Rohit's spot,  as the 6th batsman, will be challenged by the 5th bowler/ all-rounder.....Jayant at home and Pandya away.

Parthiv will challenge either Saha as the keeper-batsman or one of the openers, as a specialist batsman.

fineleg... what a thread... even i hate rohit sharma.. but wtf seriously ? :D

parthiv patel is competition to murli vijay, lokesh and dhawan as an opener

parthiv patel is competition to saha as a wicketkeeper

karun nair is competition to rohit sharma as the 6th batsman

hardik pandya & jayant yadav are competition to Rohit sharma if they are picked as 5th bowlers... in this case Rohit sharma has to prove himself more useful as a specialist batsman than they are as allrounders.

parthiv is not competition to rohit, karun nair and hardik pandya

for example - see how parthiv and rohit play in the same team

case - 1 : parthiv as opener/keeper - 6-5 combination

parthiv vs vijay vs lokesh vs dhawan - 2 spots

pujara, kohli, rahane

ROHIT SHARMA vs vs karun nair - 1 spot - 6th batsman

jayant vs hardik  - 1 spot - 5th bowler

4 bowlers

case - 2 : parthiv as pure keeper - 6-1-4/ 5-1-5 combinations

2 openers

3 middle order

ROHIT SHARMA vs jayant vs hardik vs karun nair - 2 spots

PARTHIV vs saha - 1 spot

4 bowlers

Only problem with his nfl comparisons are that most people who read this forum are from India and don't know or care two hoots about the great american sport :) and its rules

Tailunt is a decent batsman at home. Outside India, he is worse than Pappu. He is dreadful against the moving ball.

But having Pappu in the side as wk would mean he would drop at least a couple of catches which might prove costly and he is not good enough as a specialist batsman.

Ideally both shouldnt be playing for India.

That's why he can get away with posting drivel.  Clearly, he's not too far removd either.  I mean, linebacker is literally the dumbest person on an NFL team, only job is to physicially run into the opposition players, while QB has to pretty smart - and as a matter of fact, linebackers have to be quite smart and skilled as well, they have to read plays based on positioning and react in speed.  To claim that tailunt is QB/fullback and is wasted as "linebacker" is almost as tailunted as RS against Dale Steyn.  Correction, more like Mo Hafeez against Dale Steyn.

Where did I say a linebacker is useless......they have a different utility altogether..it is a thankless job albeit a very very important one.....a fullback+quarterback are the more glamorous roles and Rohit is not just one...he is 2 in one.

For the non NFL Folks......Rohit is like a Zidane+Christiano Ronaldo even though he is being used as a Roberto Carlos which he is doing a commendable job at but that's just not him......The guy is the David Beckham+Messi+Zidane+<insert every other popular soccer player you know>....and most of us who are causal followers of soccer don't know the famous defenders bar say someone like a Roberto Carlos...hence the comparison.

How about an analogy for the non-sporting types......This is like paying Rajnikanth a full remuneration and then letting him play a dad or a brother character...now Rajni is a decent actor but what kind of a dumb business man does that? you employ Rajni...pay him buckets of money...let him do his thing like styles/gimmicks and reap box office rewards.

This is why Rohit is being under-utilized

Ok oh boy here we go again........Let me break it down to you

Let me try to use the hypnosis class I took....close your eyes and try to imagine a cave....tap in to your spirit animal......you have just unlearned everything you know about cricket.

Ok now we will start on a clean slate

Once upon a time there was a team game called one day cricket-a team consists of X1 players

where in the 1970's 1980's and early 90's-200 was the par score for the other team to chase

Then in the mid 90's and 200's 250-265 became the par score  for the other team to chase

In the 2010's-300 became the norm but again this beautiful game called cricket was still played by X1 players.

But the legend has it that in the far far land near the bay of the bengal, once a mythical hero scored 267 on his own....no he didn't get X1 chances...just all alone and guess what he breached 200 twice where the river cauvery flows.

Now snap...wake up from the hypnosis.

things clearer?
