Yes, been in top from from last 2 years. Regardless of how he does in India, for me he will remain a pretty good player. I am sure he will hit a century or two in India.

 

I like his positive technique, where he is always looking to score of both spinners and seamers.

^ugly? May be you might want to check your choice of words and perhaps rephrase it to "not so fun" because I doubt a guy who bats at a pretty good strike rate, looks like a busy player always looking for singles and shuffling across to "perfection" and plays spinners with art, can look "ugly".

 

Yes you might not enjoy that kind of cricket or might not like Smith at all, but I doubt he can be "ugly" the way he bats.

 

Pretty fun to watch for me, just not when he is going guns against India. 

 

As fun as watching Dhoni bat in ODI's where he has that nifty technique where he shuffles or dips and takes quick singles and doubles and is always looking to make the fielders run after the ball. Smith does the same in test cricket. Class form he is in.

He's a beast. Destroys attacks at home and averages 40+ everywhere else. Has the best raw stats as well as the most complete record.

I find this notion bizzars that he is ugly to watch as he is so effective against both pace n spin. The way he dances down the track, reaches the ball, his elbow position , how comfertable he is against both pace n bounce, his drives and pulls are extremwly watchable and far from being called ugly

 

If ugly word needsbto be used it has to be for raydu who dances like an idiot against pace bounce n even moving ball. Even against zimb 120k bowlers he was getting in horrible positions when ball was jagging around.

I would take an ugly batsman who scores plenty of runs than a pleasant batsman like Rahane who even when in form can't cash in and score plenty of runs in a series.

I sort of agree with @Viper here, Smith is a run machine but is nowhere as aesthetically pleasing as Kane Williamson or Root, although I love how he nonchalantly smashes every ball to the leg side.

 

The run machine called Smith will be derailed by wicket machine called Ashwin in February.

Agree that Smith isn't pretty to watch, but he is certainly fun to watch for me. 

 

Like the actor who is not good looking, but is a great actor.

Smith is a run-machine.  It is very very difficult to average 60 after 49 test matches and also average 40+ in every country he has played in.

 

If he can continue in this vein then he will become one of the best batters of all time.

This guy is a beast.He will be entering into legendary status if he keeps up another two years. His last three years simply have been awesome.I do not think anyone bar Bradman has scored runs with such high average for this long span.

As a captain he is averaging over 76 with 9 hundreds which is almost Bradmanesque .It is going to be scary for bowlers as this guy is just starting his career.Unlike other players in past or present this guy has scored runs everywhere he has played, there is no weakness for this guy.

Smith is now beyond what you would call "good form". If you think Kohli has had a good year (1000+ runs at an average of 70+), Smith has now done it for 3 years in a row. All the remaining 3 of the "Big 4" have quite a bit of catching up to do to match the standards set by Smith. Has been the number 1 batsman in ICC test ranking for the entire duration of 2016.

That is for all the 3-format performances taken together, not just test matches.

 

BTW Kohli averages 64 in test matches as captain.
