Kyle Abbott to retire from International cricket for Kolpak deal

Hampshire believe they are on the verge of securing the services of Kyle Abbott on a long-term deal as a Kolpak registration, despite his recent success at international level with South Africa.

Abbott, a member of South Africa's Test team currently playing Sri Lanka in Cape Town and a key performer in the series victory over Australia, is understood by ESPNcricinfo to have agreed a three or four-year deal with Hampshire that will realistically end his international career.

While Abbott is believed to have agonised over the move for some time - Hampshire remain fearful he could change his mind over a deal agreed some weeks ago having belatedly enjoyed a run in the Test team - he is expected to announce his international retirement later this month. Cricket South Africa are not understood to be aware of the deal.

The temptation for a player like Abbott is not hard to understand. Aged 29 and only recently established in the South Africa side - he is currently playing his 11th Test - his decision to embrace a long-term county deal offers something approaching financial security. He can expect to earn more than £100,000 a year from the deal, with insurance cover built into the deal, and should still be free to play in some of the T20 leagues around the world.

It may be relevant, too, that Abbott was the man to make way for Vernon Philander in the World Cup semi-final a year ago. Whatever the merits and reasons for that decision, it has left some South African cricketers uncertain of their futures.

Finally the introduction of quota system is catching up with South Africa .It's one thing introducing in domestic cricket , but forcing it into national team was insane .

Charles Langveldt also said this few years back when he was picked ahead of Andre Nel but he made himself unavailable after feeling ashamed by the quota system. 

 

Abott has been one of the most unluckiest  bowler.

 

And this deals only shows that he is scared to lose his spot in the team as soon as Morkel and Steyn are available again.

Yep he knows he wont get a fair run for a long time.

are certainities for the XI.Stephen Cook as opener is also playing very well.Which means he has one spot in the XI which he has to fight it out with the likes of Steyn who once fit will slot back is straight away.He knows regardless of how well he plays better than Philander or Rabada,he will be dropped regardless due to the quota system.Has experience as well in the WC semi.

^the best thing which can happen now is that all the black cricketers in South Africa should come out and say that they do not want to be selected based on the quota system.

Why can't it be done? South Africa needs more people like Charles Langveldt who spoke their mind and spoke sense and actually also took the brave action of dropping himself.

I also believe that a lot of black players from Zimbabwe will move to South Africa due to more lucrative opportunities.

If Kolpak is allowed that would mean free movement of people.One of the reasons for Brexit.

Quota should be introduced at the management level. They will make sure all category players will be given equal priority when selecting based on the merits. I agree there was some kind of bias previously towards white SA players but the current system is not going to help them either.

Kyle will eventually make way for Steyn and there are two young black pacers who came through U19 lewft arm seamer Ngazibini Sigwili and specially who might play soon for SA is Lizaad Williams who was quick last time he played in U19 WC in 2012, probably the 2nd quickest bowler in that tournament after Jamie Overton and this FC season, he is averaging 15 taking 28 wickets in 5 games.

I will say something that will piss of cricket fans, but it needs to be said. Dale Steyn needs to retire as he is frequently getting injured. He is anyways thoroughly mediocre/liability in shorter formats nowadays and missing out on entire tests series due to some ailment or the other. One of the greatest all time bowlers, but needs to realize that he is blocking spot of a talent like Abbot.

 

Roussow one is also surprising. Did so well in the ODIs against Australia. Should be permanent part of the squad, but nah the experienced strokeful cricketer with milestones wants to play more even though he admitted a while back that he is not enjoying his game. So obvious he wants to pad up his stats, yet chokes when needed most. In Roussow, I see a person who has balls of steel and can be very useful to SA going forward.

 

Bunch of fools are running CSA.

Why is so much hue and cry from ECB/British media over how IPL is ruining cricket but what about their counties ruining national teams completely. IPL is just for few weeks but this is permanent.
