Dhoni T20 Batting Strategy is Wrong!!

Recommended Posts

16 balls 13 runs (1 four of a full toss down the leg)

Yet again he starts slow and gets out, plannif to leave eveything for last 3 overs.

I am not asking him to hit sixes from ball one, but least we expect is to maintain a strike rate of atleast 120. Meaning 16 balls 20 runs. Not a huge task.

What he does is, he puts pressure on the non striker and they get out.

But Dhoni fans will blindly worship him cuz there is no one after him and that's why he plays slow. Sick of this excuse.

While I agree that hes not best suited for T20s , todays match we needed him to play a little longer the way he does  and we could have got to 140 here was a winning total .

There are very few batsmen in the world who can counter attack and get away when the team is in trouble . Virat is one of them and Raina is other . One bats in the top order while other cant make the team .

If he played longer he would have scored 28(39)*. How does that help us reach 140?

Pandya didnt have to score 25 of 23 if Dhoni was around . in the end we managed only 118 cos we lost too many wickets , not cos any one played slow

pandya would have lost his wicket early because he would have to go for shots because tuk tuk dhoni was at the other end sucking up the momentum!!!

I agree with you,but the constant criticism and his general failure as a t20 batsman has got to him.you could see he was trying to be aggressive but he was certainly out of his depth attempting to be aggressive.

A top order can fall to a spell of new ball swing- so you can argue wickets 1,2,3 are at times forgivable. This is where your middle order needs to be strong. Out of numbers 4,5 and 6 yesterday, only one player looked out of his depth.

Top order's job is to shield the middle order when the ball swings , not just inflate their stats on flat pitches .

This top order (Rohit, dhawan and Kohli) have been our best batsmen in LOIs for past 4 years, if you start attacking your best players just to defend a middle order flop then you really do have fan boy syndrome

Here is where you miss a guy like Yuvi who was good enough to consolidate after early wickets and had ability to explode in the end.

Gosh Dhoni is such lucky sob he never did anything worthwhile in his whole t20 career and yet has this image of a big game changer in T20s.

Dhoni and to some extent Kohli their strengths  are running between wickets which is not enough in T20s.

I am a Dhawan and Virat fan , bigger Virat fan than any one else . if they are going to fail everytime , then there is a pattern and deserves criticism . Like I said their role is not just to make runs when its easy to bat , we could send Bhuvi up the order on flat pitches and I bet he will consistently give is good starts in power plays .

I have noticed this time and again, and I am surprised no one has ever called it out onmedia or other platforms.

In short this is what Dhonis strategy is in all IPLs and T20s.

He takes dots, singles and doubles and scores 5-6 runs an over till 17 over. With him batting you usually see a score of 110 by 17th over. And then goes bang baang. But the problem is even he scores at max 12 runs in those 3 over, it will take to a max of 140-155 score. Which is just an average score. And the annoying thing is that his worshippers start to call him a great finisher and a superagressive batsman based on his last overs exploits. Which means his spot in the team is supersafe. But everyone ignores his 90s style batting till 17th over. Why, cuz he hit some sixes in last 2 overs.

Also, it creates pressure on the other batsman to do all the hard hitting and up the run rate till 17th over which creates even more wickets.

I have seen this time and again in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cup. Heck even in IPLs, if it wasn't for Raina, csk would never be a gun team. We all know what happened to Pune Warriors when Raina separated from Dhoni.

This strategy is ok in 50 over games and I am not doubting him for 50 over team. But it's team people call his bluff and start asking questions in his defensive batting till 17th over for T20s.

Scoring 12 runs an over is useless if you leave it to only last 2-3 overs. He gotta stop exploiting the rep of a finisher and improve his batting. And I keep hearing from Dhoni that I will be more free, stop using too much brain, become more aggressive yadayada but noting changes to his strategy.

its time, he is actually dropped from the T20 format!!

Exactly what I said. Played his selfish 28 of 28' and last two overs hit few boundaries. And everyone is happy
