In that case we had a 19 year old tall fast bowler who was backed through thick and thin by Dhoni over the years despite criticism from all corners and that bowler ended up winning us a test match in Lord's and turned around CT 2013 final in our favour. Is that not long term development?
kira Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Kohli needs to learn nothing from the crappiest captain in our TEST cricket history, kohli is already better captain than dhoni in TESTS King Tendulkar, Laaloo, MCcricket and 1 other 3 1
gattaca Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) It's Bangladesh good that he is giving practice to bhuvi. Bhuvi will be key on pitches outside India except may be Australia. Since they have flat wickets with bounce. If he can bowl these in the mornings in SA,England , nz he is worth in gold. http://www.bcci.tv/videos/id/4124/mehedi-hasans-wicket-explained Edited February 12, 2017 by gattaca sscomp32 1
kira Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 On Topic: What's the point of playing kuldeep or jayant? It is a one dimensional approach, sure they may or may not have had success had they played but that's not the point, kohli doesn't want to become a one trick pony using the same formula in every match. We need to play fast bowlers to develop their game, how many more spinners do you want, we need more fast bowlers, so quit whining and appreciate kohli's approach, if he follows dhoni then we'll continue to be sheeps abroad and lions at home.

Bhuvi moving the ball around is always awesome to watch as a fan. He can make the best of batsmen look clueless. And this is why Bhuvi was our #1 bowler during that horrible England tour - took a bunch of wickets and bowled a ton of overs. Going forward, he can expected to be very useful on away tours, now that he will be part of a pack comprising of Shami, and the much improved Yadav. beetle and sscomp32 2
Sidhoni Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 All this talk about beating teams like Eng, Aus, SA away in tours which are more than a year away while not being bothered about the fact that some selections could have hurt our chances of beating Bangladesh at home.

Lannister Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I know what you are trying to pull here, when you yourself fully know how pathetic Dhoni was as the Test captain. Kumar is done for if he keeps on bowling at this pace and both Kohli and Kumble will make sure he's not going to be selected in the squad for Aus and SA tours. Earlier fans were crying that Kumar is not getting his fair share of chances on flat tracks and now hopefully this will shut them up.

Texan Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 It was a good decision. Spinners got hardly anything out of this wicket so far. Besides, an "Umpire's Call" went in favor of Ishant because of which he got a wicket, but went against BK. Otherwise he would have had 2. I thought all the pacers bowled pretty well to get BD all out. It was a pretty flat deck and all of them chipped in well. sandeep, beetle and sscomp32 3

Missing the woods for the trees. Different teams have to compromise / strategise / go out of their way to mould their teams and give themselves a better chance to succeed in conditions they generally struggle in. For example, Aussies have been struggling with their batting in asian conditions for a long time, while absolutely bossing games at home. So, they have to take certain punts on particular kind of batsmen who look like they may do well in asian conditions than the incumbents, even though the incumbents perform extremely well at home but are proven failures in asian conditions. South Africa may have to keep picking a spinner (at home) to find/groom, even though an extra seamer might help them win games more easily at home. India has to develop a pool of fast bowlers to do well in Eng, Sa and Aus. There's no other way. Whilst keeping their core strength in tact (2 terrific spinners in form who do the job day in and day out), they have to involve the pacers as much as they can, keep them in the game and let them develop, even if it looks like more spinners would make India win games easier at home. Anyway, none of our pacers (Shami, Umesh, Bhuvi, Ishant) have been a burden and they have contributed reasonably well to the overall bowling attack over the past 12-18 months. maniac 1

Agreed with everything you said. But I think this decision to play 3 pacers was more due to the grass on day 1 than anything else. People here claiming its Kohli's way of revolutionizing Indian cricket need to calm down. If he had gone with same strategy against NZ, England or South Africa then this claim would have had some substance. Now just as a tactical decision only based on this match, this wasn't the best one. Who knows we might have enforced follow on with third spinner.

So can't see third inferior spinner making a difference.

You are willing to target bk based on one innings but ignored umesh for 7 innings without a wicket before he even bowled ok in 1 or 2. That is the height of double standards here No need to throw your toys out of your pram.BK does nothing if there is no help from the conditions. In India he shouldnot even be in the squad. In places like ENG/NZ/SA is a top choice but in India he is a liablity. He bowls mostly gun barrel striaght,no pace, hardly any reverse.Nothing at all. Players are selected on what they can do.Everyone knows that Umesh is more likely to reverse and take wickets than Bkooomar.
