Ashwin vs Smith vs Rahane - Who should have been appointed new Pune captain in place of Dhoni

With Dhoni sacked as captain of Pune , is Smith really the right pick as captain.

 

Or should have picked an Indian captain in Ashwin or Rahane ?

 

I always felt Ashwin is a real street smart cricketer and would have made a wonderful captain in shorter formats .Would have been an ideal opportunity to test and improve his captaincy skills .

 

In that regard really disappointed to see Smith picked from an Indian perspective.Ots not like he is some genius captain in T20s .His Australia team won the same no of matches as Afghanistan in last T20 world Cup group stage.

At first I felt Rahane, but on second thought I think it was brilliant opportunity for a team to finally have a captain who's well established bowler. Ashwin should have been tried as the one of the rare bowling captains like Zaheer.

Already he is bowler and batter. Let him be India's and worlds premium allrounder (atleast in test arena)

I think Pune's franchise "expires" either after this season or the next?   So they are going for broke - hence the mega bid for Stokes, and trying to do what they think is their best chance of winning "now".   But some silly moves there, I think they will barely do a bit better than last year.

Steve Smith....unless there is a rule that only an Indian can captain...it's a no brainer....how can a guy who is captaining a team that is ranked 2nd in ODI's and Tests not be an automatic choice for captaincy is beyond me.

Clearly Smith has that leadership experience and Dhoni has performed poorly as a captain...that is the way any organization works.....reward on merit....Dhoni has also been dropped as  captain from a national side,so clearly Smith is the best available option.

Ashwin has barely done anything in IPL for sometime now.

Doesn't matter. He is a more established Indian player than most and has better reputation among fellow players who can understand and respect him more.

Ashwin has a poor fitness level and Rahane is not a LOI player. It should've been Faf, who seems to have come a long way ever since he was made a captain.

Smith scored a 100 last season averages 45.00 with a S/R of 153.00

 

Rahane average 43.00 with a S/R of 126.00 and 2 50's.

 

Faf I believe will leave midway.
