Kohli's top innings on difficult conditions (bowler friendly conditions+bowlers exploiting those conditons)

He needs to score in England for a change when Anderson and Broad get movement. That will be the real test.

He tried some crazy things like leaving balls that were coming back in. I think he will play better percentage cricket. All he has to do is changing his stance a bit. Like two eyed stance that Azharuddin adopted later in his career.

All he needs to do is to forget his urge to feel bat on ball , he will have problems outside offstump. I don't think he has improved his technique too much.

His best bet is play is his natural game and not get tight and hope it is good enough to get him going in England.

People keep saying flat as if they have batted on the pich, only to see how well bowlers bowled and got the purchase out today from the wicket where top batsman like Rahane and all got out.  This was another brilliant ton by Kohli.

We slumped from 192 for 1 to 281 for 7 on the 5th day on this pitch .... SL then crashed to 75 for 7.

In the post match interviews,  players were talking about consistent seam movement, cracks opening up and inconsistent bounce  of this pitch on day 5.

Batting was not easy on the last day and Kohli was the only one who crossed 30 from either side and went on to make a century.

Exactly, the ball to Rahane and Pujara shows the sudden surprise which was there Lanka were surprised too and almost crashed to defeat.

We are a one man team. He clicks we win he fails we look no better than SL. Upcoming odi series will show how we will struggle to beat SL in his absence.

how many did he score against Aus? He did not even play last test. we still won. Even in this game, it was Rahul and Dhawan who set up the 2nd innings.

This was one of his finest knocks imo. The next five batsman after Virat managed to score only 0+9+7+5+8 = 29 runs, Virat scored 30 in the last 10 balls of his innings. No batsman from either side scored more than 30 runs after Virat.

Had he gotten out after scoring 30-40, Lanka would've probably fancied their chances of chasing 160odd in 40 overs. Kohli's century saved the Test match as well as shifted the momentum completely in India's favour.

In hindsight, it's very easy to say that we should've declared much earlier. Even I can say that in hindsight our bowlers should've done much better in Lanka's first innings and dismissed them for <250. If they had done their job, then we could've declared much earlier and won this game. They didn't and hence the game was drawn.

I could also go further back and blame the batsmen in the first innings; even further back and blame the sun and Bay of Bengal for the clouds and rains; even further back and blame the match referee and gravity for the toss....

Everyone knows everything in hindsight.

Seriously, what is wrong with icfers. Cant they see simple fact. On the same pitch Dhawan and Rahul were scoring at quick rate.  Kohli is only player who can score run at higher S/R then either of two. On start day 5, the only way we would have given some target to Lankans was trying to score at high rate. Why cant Shashri and Kohli may have discussed that option in dressing room.

Apart from Kohli, no one else would fit that bill. Hence loss of those many wickets. Else atleast one of the two Rahane and Chepu  would have scored some runs.

About Lankan batsmen, All they had was one session. Somehow survive that. So they just managed to do that.

About Indian players telling it was tough batting condition, "Discussion (Kohli's statements) in dressing room stays in Dressing room, else you are out of dressing room for good"

how many did he score against Aus in Aus ? Remove kohli from this team and we are no better than NZ. He makes and avg indian team look good.

Without getting into format debate, what will be ODI scoreline ? we just beat them 5-0 playing at home should nullify losing kohli, so will we win 3-0 both ODIs and t20 ?

yes, there was no Kohli at Dharmshala and we still won, so, there is your answer. There is no player who is irreplaceable. Some other player will take his place and will do well. Someone like Rahul is sitting out in ODIs and T20s. We could not beat NZ and Aus 5-0 or 3-0 even with Kohli neither in T20s nor in ODIs. We lost Pune test despite Kohli playing. Yes, he is a great player but others have done better than him at least in test this year. Check the test stats of this year. Pujara is the top run getter, Rahul #2, and Kohli was not even in the picture before this 100 in last test, was averaging measly 42.

Still behind Pujara and Rahul.  Dhawan has less runs as he played but better average this year.
